Redwork Finished

The redwork for the Christmas quilt is finished. I thought I could remember all the blocks I embroidered since the last time but I couldn't. There are more blocks than these but this is a good selection.

Some of the blocks look a lot like what has been shown before. There are several of the same designs that are different sizes.

I pressed these blocks with a hot iron to remove the pen markings. Now they are carefully hanging on a hanger in the to be quilted closet even though they're not ready for quilting. I think hanging projects makes them less wrinkly then folding them.

All the embroidery has been worked in 3 strands of DMC embroidery thread. I used both variegated and solid red thread.

These embroideries were designed by Gail Pan and were selected from two of her books, Christmas Patchwork Loves Embroidery and Simply Christmas No. 3.

Now I need to get the next quilt marked and in the frame to show you next Sunday.

Hand Quilt Along is an opportunity for hand quilters and piecers to share and motivate one another. We post every three weeks, to show our progress and encourage one another.  If you have a hand quilting project and would like to join our group contact Kathy at the link below.

I am just sew in love with your redwork that I bought a panel that is redwork already printed... it should come Monday and then I can decide on thread... I was pondering a 12 wt Aurifil instead of investing in DMC... do you have a preference if you didn't already have the DMC available to you? I have no stores with any red thread I must order online... thanks for your red thread advice :) Thanks for sharing your redwork too! Kathi

Lovely embroideries, I love the bird, and the tree with candles!

I can't wait to see the panel you purchased, hope you show it next week and have a link!

I used embroidery floss because I wanted to use 3 strands of thread. You really go through the floss this way though. If your panel is already marked red, I think the 12 wt Aurifil will be just fine.

I love those red-work pieces. I especially like the swirly tree and the gingerbread men. I hang all of my cross-stitch pieces prior to finishing them too.

Oh so pretty! I love redwork, and haven't had the time to do any lately. I didn't even post today because it's the second time with no handwork in three weeks. Your progress is marvelous, however, and it's going to be a great Christmas quilt.

Lovely to see those finished embroideries. Hum, I wonder where I put the Halloween pattern I bought, um, 3 years ago. I guess it would be considered blackwork. Thanks for the lovely eye candy.

What a sweet collection of redwork blocks. I really like the combination of solid red and variegated threads. Love the sparkle fabric as the background - I bet it's so much prettier than the camera can see. And I also love that it sounds like you, too, have a closet dedicated just to hanging quilt projects. :)
