Older Quilts

Most of these quilts I made, but not all of them.

I embroidered the blocks for this quilt when I was 17, it took me a year until they were finished. My mother pieced the quilt and we quilted on her some. The majority of quilting was completed by my Great-Aunt Emma Maust. The quilt is queen sized. Completed in 1975.

Tree of Life Wallhanging 37" x 57", designed by Edyta Sitar from her Friendship Triangles book. Long-arm quilted by the Three Sisters Quilting, New Paris, Ind. 2011

I had so much fun making the trees for the Tree of Life wallhanging, I decided to pieced a full sized tree quilt. Originally I hadn't planned on having the plain cream blocks in the quilt, I had pieced trees for those places. However, you weren't able to see the trees because it was a forest! So I went with plan B. She measures 90" x 100" and was long-arm quilted by the Three Sisters. You will see another tree project coming another year using the leftover tree blocks. 2011

Medallion 45" x 58" designed by Edyta Sitar, long-arm quilted by Three Sisters quilting. The blocks in this quilt finish at 2". I wanted a smaller wallhanging. 2011

Embroidered wedding quilt made for a
nephew and his bride.
Blocks embroidered by my mother in her senior years, hand quilted by me, September, 2013

One Saturday morning, probably in 1982?, my mother stopped in. She had been to an auction and bought this top. She thought I would like it and so she gave it to me. I appreciated it, but at the time I had 2 toddlers undertow and I remember it was summertime and the farmer wanted to bale hay that afternoon. I buried it in the bottom of my cedar chest and forgot about it.

I was looking through that chest about 5 years ago and found the top. I had the Three Sisters quilt her. She measured 80" x 86".  Hummingbird Quilt - quilted 2014

Now I wish I had asked her who, what and where but it is too late.

I love this blue & white churn dash quilt. She came to me indirectly through the Farmers family. She was pieced and hand-quilted by Fannie Baumgartner Kauffman, Clinton Township, Elkhart County, Indiana 1867 - 1936. She is the Farmer's great-grandmother and the quilt is in excellent condition. Someday I want to make a reproduction of this quilt. I did make the reproduction and finished her in 2017! You can view my finished quilt here.

Magic Vine Quilt 71" x 106"
I don't normally don't buy quilts, new or antique, but this quilt just spoke to me and pleaded with me to take her home when I found her at Haarer's Antique shop in Shipshewana, Ind. I don't have any background history for her. Purchased October, 2013.
