Last Feathered Stars

Eight feathered stars have been pieced for Blue Radiance. I need 9 blocks for the wall quilt, I've pieced two more stars.

These blocks are all starting to look alike! And the second block.

I pieced a tenth block because I can't decide if I like the dark block in the center or not. What do you guys think?

Here are the blocks with the dark star in the center.

Here are the blocks with a a different star in the center.

I sewed some sashing to help in the decision. What do you think?

This next picture has the dark block in the center.

I think I like it better without the dark block in the center but I'm not 100% sure yet.

The pattern for Radiant Blue(s) is found in the January/February 2007 issue of Fons & Porter's Love of Quilting magazine and is designed by Marsha McCloskey. I didn't use Marsha's directions to piece the stars, I foundation paper pieced them using the 16" pattern found here at Threaded Quilting Studio.

Sauder Quilt Show, the Rest of the Pictures

My Pastor's Attic quilt was awarded first place in the applique/handquilted class at the Sauder Quilt Show. I knew the sweepstakes winners were presented with a 'plate' but I didn't realize the blue ribbon quilts were also! I was very surprised when Lynn and I picked up our quilts and we each received a plate.

The plates were made by the village potter. It's definitely on display in my home!

The first group of Sauder quilt show pictures were published last Sunday. Here are the rest of pictures. These quilts weren't necessarily prize winning quilts, they are the quilts that caught my eye.

We can ALL relate to this quilt and we ALL have the pieces to make a quilt like this!

There were many more lovely quilts at the show that I didn't photograph. I couldn't take pictures of them all, besides, my phone died.

The 2025 Sauder show will be held Wednesday April 30 - Saturday May 3. SauderVillage.org/QuiltShow

Two More Feathered Stars & a Design Change

Two more feathered stars are finished for the Radiant Blues wall quilt.

I've made a slight change to the next block. Do you see the difference in piecing between the first block and the second one?

I've modified the pattern. Instead of a square at the point of the edge feathers, there is a triangle. The next two stars will also made with this modification.

The pattern for Radiant Blues is found in the January/February 2007 issue of Fons & Porter's Love of Quilting magazine and was designed by Marsha McCloskey. I'm foundation paper piecing my feathered stars using the 16" pattern from Threaded Quilting Studio.

Sauder Quilt Show

I'm interrupting my regular Sunday post about Hearts & Wreaths to show you pictures from the Sauder Quilt Show.

Here is a link to pictures of the class winners and Best of Show quilts.

Here is a link of all the classes and placings in the classes. There are no pictures on this list.

How did I do at the show? I placed 2 out of 3 quilts. The Pastor's Attic Quilt received a 1st placing and a blue ribbon!

Here is a picture of the back side. I enjoy viewing subtle quilt designs on the back of quilts.

They used to have a separate category for whole cloth quilts but this year Welsh Beauty was the only whole cloth quilt in the show, she received a 3rd placing.

And the backside.

Star Dance didn't place. She was entered in the largest class, Large Quilt/mixed media/long/mid arm quilted. Lynn and I are driving to Sauder's tomorrow to pick up our quilts. She'll go on our bed for the summer.

Here are pictures of other quilts from the show. I decided I was in the mood for brightly colored appliqued quilts and foundation paper pieced quilts.

I am going to post half of the pictures today and the rest next Sunday.

This wall quilt was designed and made by Becky Yoder. She won the sweepstakes for best hand quilting. The cross hatching squares are 1/4"! The flowers with the vine are embroidered! I love this quilt!

This little quilt was so cute! The strips finish at 1/4"!

I will show you the rest of the pictures next week, there are too many for one post.

The 2025 Sauder Quilt show will be held Wednesday April 30 - Saturday May 3.

More Feathered Stars

Here is the next group of three feathered stars for the Radiant Stars wall hanging.

I pulled a different light blue for this star.

I'm trying to have different fabrics in the stars and in the placement of color values.

The pattern for Radiant Blues is found in the January/February 2007 issue of Fons & Porter's Love of Quilting magazine and was designed by Marsha McCloskey. I'm foundation paper piecing my feathered stars using the 16" pattern from Threaded Quilting Studio.
