Stonefields, Blocks 42 & 43

Block 42 from the Stonefield's quilt, is named the Tulip.

There was only supposed to be one tulip block but of course I made a second one which is block 43.

The tulip stems were embroidered and the applique was fairly simple.

The next several blocks are more challenging applique with smaller pieces. Stonefield's is designed by Susan Smith.

Except for some of the background fabrics, the blues have all come from my stash.

You can view the quilts that will be in the Michiana Mennonite Relief sale here which will be held Saturday, September 27. Click on the picture of the quilt for a larger picture. Here is a link to the general website for the relief sale.

I have donated several quilts and have ties to another one. I'll give you the lot number and link to a blog post about the quilt so you can read about it. Feel free to bid if you so choose, thank you!

Your tulip blocks turned out beautifully. I'm looking forward to seeing all the blocks sewn into a quilt, you've made so many pretty ones for this project. I looked at the Mennonite Relief sale, that's a lot of quilts up for auction!

I love seeing each new block each week. This one looks like it too no time at all for you. Hope you have great weather and turn-out for the relief sale. I used to go to one in Kidron, Ohio. My dad liked to go and look at all of the farm equipment for sale. The quilts there have gotten more and more simple over the years.

These tulips are very pretty, and of course two is better than just one! I love how your Stonefield blocks always look elegant and delicate. You donated a lot of quilts for the relief sale, it's great to see them again among the others. Thank you for sharing with us and linking up.

Your tulips are lovely, Gretchen! Tell me more about the embroidery stitch you used for the stems. I can't make it out from the photos. Is it a double row of stem stitches, or outline stitch and stem stitch side by side, or is it a different type of stitch altogether? It's really pretty, like a braided effect.
