Elegant Garden, Block 12

I'm making good progress with these blocks. Block 12 is completed and I really like it.

I thought it might be too dark but it isn't.

I trim the fabric behind each layer of applique so it isn't so bulky.

There are 4 layers of fabric on the dark blue/circle flowers.

I'm considering hand quilting this quilt but won't make that decision for certain until these blocks are sewn into a flimsy. That decision depends on what I think of the outer border blocks.

I'm surprised by the variety of fabrics in the civil war fabric tub.

Elegant Garden is designed by Edyta Sitar.

This might be my favorite block thus far. I love the wreath and all those beautiful circles. I bet it is a lot of fun to fluff for fabrics in the Civil War tub.

You certainly do have some pretty civil war fabrics in that tub if yours. Another lovely block finished.

Beautiful block! How many more blocks do you have left to stitch?

There are 12 more applique blocks to stitch. Then I need to piece a center block. The outside border is also pieced.

Just lovely applique Gretchen;))) I especially like those little circles' flowers--with the scalloped edges--so pretty. Nice work...

Your applique is so beautiful! Trimming behind the fabric must be a little scary. . .if it were me, I'd clip the outside fabric!!!

Beautiful applique. I enjoy it too. I've decided to hand quilt around the design and just fill in the rest with cross hatch on mine. Going to be a lot of stitching, but it'll be pretty.

Elegant Garden is elegant indeed, especially in your hands, Gretchen.

Your block looks wonderful, Gretchen! I like to trim behind my appliqué as well, especially when the appliqué shapes are layered or are especially large. I know some quilters only trim the background out if they are planning to hand quilt, but I prefer the softness with the bulk removed regardless of whether it's hand or machine quilted.
