Slow Hand Quilting & Applique

I quilted across the vintage Boston Commons quilt this week.

The white background fabric isn't perfectly flat but it is quilting nicely. Do you see my whoops in this picture? Apparently I ran out of thread then forgot to finish that one feather. The feather has been quilted and I rolled.

Last summer (2019) Kevin hosted a mystery sew along called Simply Sensational Summer Scrap Quilt. His pattern is very similar to the design of this quilt.

I did not finish the applique for the center of my blue Stars Around the Garden but I did make progress. I should get it finished it this week.

Gretchen, I am loving seeing your quick progress on Vintage Boston Commons... I also am loving watching your beautiful applique ! I enjoy embroidery more than applique I think. But then I am not as patient with applique as you are! lol Kathi

your quilting hides all the ruffles you had in that quilt top really well, it is going to make a really nice finish

This quilt is looking amazing and I studied each picture looking for the whoops! I still couldn't see it but boy your quilting is beautiful. Very pretty blue flower appliqué too.

Lovely hand quilting--a skill I do not have! Scrappy quilts are best in my book :)

GOSH, your applique is beautiful, Gretchen! Your hand quilting, too. You can easily go back and fix that missing feather, can't you? Is it a simple thing to roll back to that area on a hand quilting frame, or will it be easier to add that missing feather in a hoop after the rest of the quilting has been completed?

There was no problem quilting the missed feather, it was on the edge of the roll. If it were deeper into the roll, I would have unrolled and quilted it. It is hard to find missed spots when the quilt is out of the frame. Thanks for commenting!
