Blueberry Pie Borders

It's been a year since I completed the center for Blueberry Pie. The plan has always been to add applique borders but Pie had to wait while I appliqued the borders for Hearts & Wreaths. Then I hand quilted Hearts & Wreaths so Pie had to wait even longer!

It's taken me several months to find my handwork mojo again. I enjoy hand applique, it's just all the time that goes into the preparation before I can actually applique that is so tiresome.

Finally, the applique borders for Blueberry Pie have started. There isn't much to see, just appliqued vine so far.

I have Lady Jane hanging in the dining room area. I really like the center medallion applique. 

I took the center medallion and altered it to become the border design for Bluebery Pie. This obviously isn't a professional layout but it works for me!

After the pattern was revised, I traced it onto the fabric borders, with a black Frixion pen.

I cut the bias vine fabric at 3/4" wide then used a 3/8" Clover bias tape maker to make the bias vine. When I marked the quilt, I only made a single line for the vine.

I was in Wakarusa a week and a half ago, and took pictures of the quilt garden, it's really growing!

Knitting Dishcloths

It's been a while since I've had a Sunday post. The only hand work happening in my house is knitting dishcloths. They're simple to make and I don't have to think.

I don't know where I found the pattern I use, I do know it was a free pattern from wherever it came from. Seed Stitch Dish Cloth - With a size #6 circular needle cast on 40 stitches. Row 1 & 2 – knit. Row 3 & 4 – Knit 2 *K1 P1 repeat from * across to last 2 stitches k2. Repeat rows 1 – 4 for pattern until measures 9” (same as bottom edge), ending with Rows 1 & 2. Bind off. 

I should be embroidering quilt labels but that hasn't happened either, oh well. When I'm finished machine quilting all the small quilts I have in the stack, I'll prep the applique border for Blueberry Pie.

I was in Wakarusa last week so I took pictures of the quilt garden, it's growing. The dusty Miller looks like it's threatening to take over.

A lovely wooden quilt hangs on the wall during the summer, it's put away over the winter season.

Hearts & Wreaths

Today I'm posting pictures that show 2 quiltings across the quilt. I hope you understand what I'm saying. The pictures show approximately half of the blocks, the bottom half. I'm pushing myself to finish this quilt, I'm ready to take a quilting break for the summer.

At the bottom of the blocks is the seam line. Last week I had quilted almost to the line. This week I quilted and rolled, the seam line is actually rolled. This way you can see more of the quilting. 

I only need to quilt the other sides of the blocks. Instead of rolling, I'm going to move my chair to the other side of the quilt and quilt on that side.

What does this really mean? It means I'm really close to a finish!

Last week I was in Wakarusa, the quilt garden is planted and growing. We've had an abundancy of rain this spring and the garden is off to a great start. Click here to read about the Quilt Gardens.
