Embroidered Double Wedding Ring Quilt

Last January I listed some challenges I wanted to accomplish in 2021. One of those challenges was to finish this double wedding ring center that I embroidered so many, many years ago. It's my oldest UFQ, at least 25 years.

The old narrow border has been removed, that fabric had actually faded! This center has been hanging over the door into the sewing room forever. I'm tired of it nagging at me so time to get it finished!
I've decided I'm going to add a row of blue stars around the center. I've made two morning stars or sawtooth stars or whatever name these stars are called.

I'm using this lovely 'old' white with tiny rosebuds in it as a nod to the pink embroidery in the quilt. I'm not planning to make any pink stars.

There will be a border between the center and the stars but I don't know how wide it will be, math is involved you know. I'll wait until I have a lot more stars made then do the figuring.

That is beautiful, Gretchen! I think the blue stars sound perfect as a border.

Thanks for reminding me, I have an old quilt from my mil's house when she passed away. The binding was rotten so I cut it off and never finished. Perhaps when I finish the flowers I should tackle it.

Sounds like a good plan to move that old UFO forward! I've never seen an embroidered DWR. How unique.

Just caught up on your posts, Gretchen. I love the Circle in a squares in teal...so pretty, and your wonderful appliqued flowers. Also how wonderful to be giving new life to this piece with all that lovely embroidery. Happy Stitching!

It’s going to be stunning! Love the rosebud background!

Looks like the stars may be too dark for that center. Just a thought.

There are a variety of blues, some dark, some lighter. I'm going to alternate light/dark, I think the darker blocks will look, if not, I'll have to make more light stars.

This is going to be a beauty, and I love the background you chose for the stars! I'm fascinated with embroidery mixed with blocks. I have a Christmas project going right now with that mix, and I'm a little nervous about whether the floss will bleed when washed.
