Christmas Decorating

Some people really get into Christmas decorating. I love to read their blogs and see all their pretties. My decorating isn't like that, my decorating is done mostly with quilts.

Red Radiance is hanging in living room. I always smile when I see this wallhanging, it was so much fun to make.

This panel quilt is in the dining room where we never dine, it's actually where I have my Grace quilting frame.

I have a Christmas lap quilt which goes on the back of the couch. For the backing fabric, I sewed leftover blocks and fabrics together. The 4yo grandson likes the backside of the quilt the best so that is how it is displayed.

Evergreen wreaths are on the entrance doors. I'll probably keep them up through February. They add a bit of cheer throughout dreary winter days, but who knows? Maybe we'll have more snow this winter and it will be brighter outside.

Our 4 yo grandson arranged the nativity in the bay window. The items will probably be rearranged during December but that's ok.

I almost forgot this little wall quilt I made several years ago. I lay it on top of a quilt on the quilt ladder. A friend gifted me with a charm pack for my summer birthday, it was perfect for this 12 Days of Christmas pattern from Temecula Quilt company.

When I went to get the 12 days of Christmas quilt, this  snowman mini quilt was with it. This was a kit I bought at the Grand Rapids show. This kit is from the Red Button Quilt Company and is called Snowman Love. Thank you to Tina for correcting my mistake! It rests on top of a quilt on the other quilt ladder.

A project on the list for 2021 is the Redwork quilt. Maybe it will be finished by next Christmas.

Of course I'll do some baking but I'm not one of these people who makes 20 dozen kinds of cookies! My mom always made pumpkin roll for the holidays. This is one I've made for Thanksgiving. The recipe is from the King Arthur site. The pictures with the recipe are prettier than my photo but the roll was delicious!

Have a happy Christmas with all these beautiful decorations. Your Nativity stable made me laugh: I wonder what's happening at the back - something to do with the Lego builder? Everyone is ignoring the baby! I take it the 4 year-old made the arrangement and to a 4 year-old builders are more interesting than babies!

Thank you for sharing all of your quilty decorations! They're lovely. I really like that first red and white quilt at the top. And I love King Arthur recipes! Thanks for sharing this one :)

So nice seeing all your lovely Christmas quilts. At this point in ,y life I'd love to keep the decorating simple with just a few quilts and some candles and nativity, but my DH prefers the glitz and glam of full-blown decorating. Not sure how that will go this year with a new kitten in the house.

Is your Red Radiance hand embroidered ??? Wow anyway this quilt is a real beauty.

Yes, Red Radiance is hand embroidered. It was a fun project.

If I were you, I'd tell my husband he can decorate however he wants but he has to do the decorating then take down the decorations and put them away in January. Hope you can find a good compromise. Happy stitching!

I enjoy hand embroidery. I like this wallhanging doesn't shout "Christmas" and can be displayed all year long. That pumpkin roll was really good. I'll be making another one Saturday.

I have never made a pumpkin roll - I guess I really should try it one day, I do love them. All of your quilting and decorating is looking great.

Like is never dull with a four year old and I'm sure the construction worker showed up just to make sure all was well in the barn.

That greenery is beautiful! And I definitely laughed out loud when I saw that construction guy just hanging out in the Nativity with everyone else. So, so sweet. :) -Marlys

I’ve enjoyed your blog for a while now but have never commented. Love your hand quilting! I wanted to say that the little snowman quilt came from the Red Button Quilt Company. I have a few of their patterns and love all the little buttons they incorporate on the quilts.

I am similar in decorating styles. If it was up to me, I would only decorate a little tree in the window and get out my Christmas quilts. My husband, however, makes our house look like Clark Griswold. I love to make pumpkin rolls, also. Merry Christmas!

Hi Gretchen! It looks like you home is graced by beautiful quilts in every room. I have to agree with your grandson - the reverse side of the Christmas lap quilt is really pretty. I look forward to seeing your redwork piece for 2021. I have several pieces that are finished just waiting to be quilted. I haven't been able to commit to a quilting design so it hangs in the closet. Shame on me! Thanks so much for linking up this week. ~smile~ Roseanne

That reminds me...time to get out my own Christmas quilts! Beautiful decorations, and I love the extra touch the 4-year-old added to the nativity scene. Thanks for linking up to TGIFF!

Spoken like a keen quilter when you said "my Christmas decorating is done with quilts" That's what we all like to do, dont we. Your Christmas selection is lovely.

Red Radiance is just amazing Gretchen, one of the most beautiful red quilts I have ever seen! My decorations are pretty simple too. I did get the tree in today, but haven't started on the lights or anything yet. Maybe tomorrow morning. :)
