Sweet Surrender has progressed into the flimsy stage. (Link to the pattern is here.) I've been working on this quilt for several years starting sometime in January 2016.
The applique is needle turned hand applique. There is also supposed to be an appliqued border but I just couldn't make myself applique anymore on her.
The borders are my own design. The white border is 6" and I plan to quilt a flower design there. I bought the stencil yesterday and it fits perfectly!
She measures 92" x 102" and will be hand quilted. For now she's residing on a hanger in the waiting to be quilted closet. She's in the line-up for quilting after the Pastor's Attic quilt.
My children were rather surprised when they saw that I had used red in this quilt. As you all know, I'm a blue person so using red was a shock to them.
You can read about my Sweet Surrender progress here.
Another project crossed off the original list of ten.

Having done a large needle turn quilt I know where your coming from. I think your border compliments the quilt and I always love when there is negative space to add some wonderful stitches
Super quilt (I love red) it will look lovely hand quilted.
The red borders frame your quilt perfectly. That sure is a lot of hand appliqué! The whole border will be the perfect place for some flowers when you do your hand quilting. The whole quilt is lovely.
Beautiful! This quilt is still in my "to be started" pile, lol
Beautiful quilt and love your border. Isn't it funny how our kids know us so well?
Wow! This is amazing! It is so beautiful! :-)
It's beautiful ........
What a stunning quilt--so lovely hugs, Julierose
I really enjoyed appliqueing the blocks, they went really fast. Sewing the blocks together went so much easier than I thought they would. I've just ran out of steam and had to force myself to finish this quilt. I'm so glad I did, I'm excited about quilting her some day.
Wow that is lovely! It is going to be absolutely stunning once you get it quilted. Thanks for sharing with Oh Scrap!
Oh my goodness! That is sooooo cute! I love the flowers with the triangles. Just beautiful!
It is a really lovely quilt, and all that needleturn applique! I know what you mean about not wanting to applique the border. I'm doing the Roseville Album quilt and just have one more block to go. I also have a closet where the finished tops go and that is where it is headed - borderless until I decide what to do. I am so used up with appliquing that quilt. I'm glad I made it and I'll be glad when it's done.
I just love this pattern and your top turned out great
A stunning quilt! I too, think your border choice is perfect, it really compliments the quilt centre, and you still have opportunity to add even more interest when quilting it later.
It's beautiful. Nice work!
Hi Gretchen! What a fabulous finish you're sharing with us today. I think you made the perfect choice in selecting red for the border, but red is one of my go-to colors. This is beautiful and look forward to seeing what you quilt in the borders. Happy Monday! ~smile~ Roseanne
WOW!!! That is beautiful!
Love it! The red is a gorgeous accent and I think the quilting idea sounds beautiful. Great job!
It's an absolutely gorgeous quilt, and the borders look fine as they are. Red was a great choice!
Best quilt at the party!
Your quilt is so striking and I do not blame you for not doing all that border applique. I like the simple border that you made. You are doing a great job on your 2018 finishes! Yea for your!
Thank you for your link to the Show and Tell Monday and welcome to the week again !!
Summer hugs from Bambi
Oh Gretchen she is so so beautiful, I have loved watching Sweet Surrender grow, seeing the lovely wee applque triangles you made, they are so simple but has some thing very special in that design. I'm still temped to make it my self. Ive seen many people make it and each quilt is beautiful. Yours looks stunning in reds. Thank you for sharing it step by step. looking forward to seeing it quilted now/ Cheers Glenda
That is beautiful! And huge! I am in awe of your needle turned applique!
Congradulations Gretchen!!! This quilt was a lot of work as I know. Your version is beautiful and your borders are spectacular.
It's beautiful. I hope when you're done quilting, that you'll come back and link up your finish. Thanks for linking up with Thank Goodness It's Finished Friday (TGIFF).
Beautiful! And quite a time investment, especially if you're hand quilting also.
