End of Year Review

2025 has come to an end and it's time to review how I did with my long list of projects posted in January.

#1. The fabrics for the Fire Island Hosta Queen quilt have been washed and pressed but then nothing more happened. Hopefully '26 will be the year piecing actually happens.

#2. The Blueberry Pie flimsy was completed in 2024 and is hanging in the 'to be quilted' closet. He's in the queue for hand quilting but that won't happen until the relief sale quilt is finished.

#3. Elegant Garden is a flimsy and is stored in the to be hand quilted closet. I have a plan for this quilt when she's finished so she will probably be quilted before Blueberry Pie.

#4. Garden Party  Garden Party is designed by Bonnie Hunter and the pattern is found in her Addicted to Scraps book. The 'flower' blocks have been pieced and the chain blocks were pieced at a quilt retreat in November. The plan is to piece the half chain blocks at a quilt retreat in January. Maybe this quilt will be a flimsy in 2026?

#5 Relief Sale Quilt is in the hand quilting frame and is in the process of being hand quilted. It will be donated and sold in the 2027 Michiana Mennonite Relief Sale.

#9 was a project from one of the many projects I have selected fabrics for and stored in a bag. This project didn't happen. 😉

#10 was a quilt from the Red & White Gatherings book designed by Lisa Bongean. I made a small quilt with the Love Triangle pattern. It's not quilted and I'm not sure when that will happen. The light colored background cries out for custom quilting. I'm not capable of doing that with my machine and I have so many quilts waiting to be hand quilted.

I really like the star design and I can envision several of these stars made into a quilt . . . using blue fabrics of course!

#11. Blue embroidered blocks  I appliqued blocks for the corners of this quilt. This flimsy has been delivered to Calico Point for quilting.

#12. Lavender embroidered blocks  I used the same idea as the blue embroidered blocks, four blocks were appliqued for the outside corners. This flimsy has also been delivered to Calico Point for quilting.

#13 - Four Patch Around the World was pieced early in January and a complete finish in February.

#16 - 2025 Designer Mystery BOM  . . . This mystery quilt started in June and runs through 2026. 

#17 - I quilted Book Adventures or Peter Rabbit on my home sewing machine in May.

Several compassion quilt flimsies were pieced and will be quilted next spring to be donated. Overall, I think I accomplished a lot in 2025 and managed not to get sidetracked by squirrels. Next week I'll publish my 'to do list' for 2026 which won't be as intensive as the 2025 list.

2nd Quarter Check-In

It's time for the 2nd quarter check-in of 2025 and time to check in with how my project list is going.

#3 is Elegant Garden. She is a flimsy! No, I didn't add the half star blocks for the outside border but I doubt Edyta Sitar is going to show up and complain. She is hanging in the 'to be hand quilted' closet waiting for her turn in the quilting frame.

Three quilts flimsies for granddaughter Joanna were pieced in the first quarter. They have returned from Calico Point with the quilting completed.

Teal Stars was #6 on the project list.

#7 is Log Cabin Hearts

#14 - The blocks in this little quilt were embroidered by granddaughter Miriam. Now it's finished!

Two Compassion  (along with several others) quilts are quilted and delivered to Goshen Hospital to be used in the cancer center.

#17 - Book Adventures or the Peter Rabbit Quilt was finished in May. I machine quilted it myself with my sewing machine.

Teal Stars

Teal Stars is a complete finish, she came home from Calico Point last Saturday. 

She's displayed on our bed because I don't want to use the quilt line, the plants aren't all up yet in the flowerbed. I don't want her dragging in the soil.

The Baptist Fan quilting was perfect choice for this quilt.

That is double delight peeking out under teal stars. We have a king sized bed. At 96" square, teal stars will fit nicely on a queen or regular sized bed.

 The white fabric surrounding the stars display the quilting nice, the teal fabrics are more busy. The backing fabric is a white whole cloth fabric with small white flowers.

One of the reasons I'm pushing myself to make these quilts for the granddaughters is I'll turn 70 this year. I watched my mother succumb to dementia and no longer have the comprehension or ability to finish the many projects she used to easily complete. I may not develop dementia but I want these quilts completed just in case. I have so many quilts on my to do list, I'll never run out of quilts to make.

First Quarter Check-In

It was easy to find time to sew in the first quarter this year. I was so busy last autumn with various activities then there was Thanksgiving and Christmas. I was glad to stay home for New Year's and started the year off with sewing!

Around the World Four Patch was the first complete finish in 2025. 

Around the World Four Patch is #13 on my long list of projects for this year.

I have completed severals flimsies for granddaughter Joanna.

Teal Stars has been pieced and delivered to a long arm quilter for quilting. This quilt was #6 on my list of quilts to make this year.

And Peter Rabbit, Book Adventures is also a flimsy. This was # 17 on the list of projects.

I will quilt this flimsy sometime this summer when I have a quilting binge.

Log Cabin Hearts was #7 on the list of quilts to make and it's a flimsy!

Spring is showing signs of coming, the temperature has warmed up and soon spring flowers will be on display.  Then it will be harder to sit and sew but until then, I'll keep my foot on the pedal and sew, sew, sew!

Teal Stars

The Teal Stars flimsy is finished, I'm pleased with the way she turned out.

She has been delivered to Calico Point for machine quilting. She should return home sometime in April.

I didn't have a pattern for Teal Stars, the design was created as I sewed. 

I did have a pattern for the stars though but the instructions told me to sew 4 strip sets for each row of the diamond, three strip sets would have been enough.

I had originally intended to have a log cabin border but since I had those strip sets leftover, they were used in the making the borders.

As of now, the flimsy is 98" square but she will shrink during quilting.

It doesn't show in the photo but the background fabric has a light aqua design in the fabric.

The leftover fabrics will be used in the next quilt for Joanna. The prep starts today for that quilt and there will be something to show you next week.

This flimsy was #6 on my list of quilts to piece in 2025 called Stars & Log Cabin.

This is the pile of 4 patches that were sewn while piecing Teal Stars. They sewn as Leader/Enders.

I must have put some in the box before I took this picture. They made with 2" squares and will finish at 3".

Teal Stars

Teal Stars is the first of several quilts I'm hoping to make for granddaughter Joanna this year. 

The center has been completed and piecing the first border is in progress.

I had trouble squaring the stars so I added sashing around the outside of the star blocks then trimmed them to 32.5".

After adding the pieced sashing and the background fabric sashing, she was supposed to measure 74.5" but she ended up 74" for some reason, I'm going to have to tweak the pieced border.

I did use a pattern for the stars but the rest of the quilt is being designed as I go. I knew I needed an even number so that is another reason I added sashing to the stars.

After I posted the first star last week, several people commented on how well the points matched/line up. I spent a lot of time sewing those diamonds. I carefully pinned each seam intersection. I'd rather spend more time doing it right the first time then have to take a block apart and re-sew. Patience is not something I have a lot of, now I remember why, the last time I sewed a Lone Star, I threw that pattern away and thought never again!

On another note, I don't know if Mail Chimp is delivering my blog posts anymore. If you have subscribed to my blog but it isn't being delivered, you'll have to search for it. Sorry about that but I don't know what to do about it. I normally link up to various linky parties during the week also.

Teal Stars

On the long list of projects for 2025, numbers 6, 7 & 8 were to make quilts for granddaughter Joanna. She's a teal girl and I have started the first quilt. For lack of a better name, I'm calling it Teal Stars.

I made the first star just to see what it was going to look like. Now I need to sew three more stars. They're ready to sew, hopefully next week I'll be able to show you all four stars or maybe, perhaps, the finished center section of the quilt.

Teal is one color I don't have very much of in my stash so I went to Calico Point and bought some. I did have one fabric from my stash, the dark outside diamond. I made sure the new fabrics played well with that fabric.
