Another Stonefield blocks is completed, #108 titled Rollercoaster. I personally don't think this block has anything to do with a rollercoaster but it's a very lovely block! This block is in contention as the center block in the quilt.
Stonefields is designed by Susan Smith. Susan did give a few instructions for this block but I ignored them and did it my way. I think the center was supposed to be a solid circle with the narrow circle on the edge. I like this better.
We had continual snow from Thanksgiving through February then it all melted and we had false spring. It was nice to have warmer weather but that also meant several days with tornadoes which was not nice. We weren't affected but there were many people who received damage, especially in southern Michigan.
Then we had winter again!
Now the snow has melted and we're back to early spring. I guess you could say our weather has been a rollercoaster.

The weather has been "different" in many parts of the country this year. I too am ready for Spring. Your block is gorgeous! I can see why it is in contention for being the center!
It's a beautiful block for sure. I don't see the roller coaster part either. 72 last Sunday, ground covered with snow the next day. 73 today...

Your Roller Coaster block is gorgeous, Gretchen! How did you do that beautiful appliqué ring in the center? Did you turn the edges ahead of time or needle turn as you went along? I thought maybe you'd used a bias strip like for a vine, but I zoomed in and couldn't see a join anywhere.
That is such a beautiful block! The contrast is just stunning. We are having roller coaster weather too. 85 yesterday and 37 today!
I needle turned the circle. I traced the pattern onto freezer paper and ironed it onto the back of the fabric.
Beautiful block, Greatchen. Often our own way of doing things work out the best. In Norway we say March is moody; it can go from winter to spring and then full winter again in a few days. Still hot here, waiting for cooler days.
What must have been a fiddly block very well executed! It's gorgeous. xx

Beautiful block! We had snow flurries last Monday, then hit 100 F on Friday. It's been a crazy spring.
Our weather is different every day. Sunshine and no snow, and then things change and white is covering the ground once again. Glad we are closer to the more Spring side of weather. Your blue's are magical. You have a way of putting them together that just makes them perfect.
I seldom follow a pattern but when I do, I always do it my way. I think your quilts are meant to be one of a kind. Your block is beautiful. Our weather is crazy too. We had a blizzard last Monday, deep-freeze temps on Tuesday, and sat outside at a baseball game on Saturday in sunshine and 70 degree weather.

There are a total of 121 6" finished blocks in the center. Then there is supposed to be a border of flying geese around the center. I'm concentrating on finishing the 6" blocks first. I'll think about the geese later.

Absolutely, weather this year so far has been a rollercoaster! Although all those applique circles are a bit of a ride too! From posts I've seen about it, it seems the consensus amoung those that make is that the pattern is more "inspiration" than instruction. Going your own way has worked beautifully!!
