Blocks 42 & 43 from the Stonefields quilt are named Mulhouse Magic, they are the only blocks pieced in section four, they were fun blocks to make.
I fussy cut the center fabric in both blocks which is a square in a square block.
Susan doesn't really give you instructions when you make these blocks. For this block, she said to look at the picture for guidelines. I made QST's for the outer corners, half of them had the light blue on the right side while the other half had the light on the left side. That worked out okay, I had enough for both blocks.
Block 45 was also supposed to be the same design but you know me, two of one design is enough.
Stonefields is designed by Susan Smith.
Week 3 of the 2025 Laundry Basket Mystery was to make flying geese, 24 of them. They are placed around the center star. I went ahead and sewed the star sections together, Edyta didn't say to do that but I did it anyway. Hopefully there will not be any unstitching happening.
The blue looks too bold for the rest of the fabrics but I'll wait and see how they look when it's finished before I make any changes. I assume next week we'll be making corner blocks.
The kit came for the Designer Mystery BOM, this is the 4th block in the series.
I think this is the prettiest block.
Those tiny little birds in the brown fabric are so cute!

This is a pretty sew along, your blocks are turning out beautifully!
The Edyta blocks are already making a gorgeous quilt!
Your Stonefields is so, so pretty. I went back and looked at Nanette's finish, and she was selling her pattern for $125 and said she purchased it for $200 in 2015. How can it be that expensive if she says refer to the picture for guidelines - lol!
loving all those stonefields blocks....another beauty in the making
Oh that designer mystery block is so pretty! Lots of pieces pay off on this one.
Look at you, cruising along with both projects and making beautiful progress! I guess if you were hand piecing the blocks as Susan did for her quilt, it wouldn't matter as much how you put each block together as hand piecers don't sew through the seam allowances and they can just be flipped out of the way as needed. Now I'm thinking about how I'll make this block (someday when I finally get there, as I'm only up to Blocks 16 & 17 myself!). Your blocks turned out terrific but I know the challenge for me will be getting all those seams to line up properly where 5 seams converge at the corner of each center square... I considered FPP in three sections, the big one would be the spool shaped center and then the two side sections would be attached with inset seams, but that doesn't help me with those bulky seam intersections. Then I sketched out a pressing plan that would spin the seam allowances counterclockwise on the left side of the block and clockwise on the right side of the block, and that might work with my FPP plan. Hmmm... now that I've spent so much time thinking about this I'm tempted to just skip ahead and try it out. Either that or I need to make some notes to myself in Month Four of my binder!
I love the variety of projects you have going on right now. The fabrics are fabulous. I agree--that designer block is lovely! And I would have missed that tiny bird had you not pointed it out but it's adorable. Thanks for sharing on my weekly show and tell, Wednesday Wait Loss. https://www.inquiringquilter.com/questions/2025/09/17/wednesday-wait-loss-450
It's such fun to see your blocks coming together! I admire long-term projects like Stonefields (even more because I don't have the patience for them). The Laundry Basket BOM is intriguing, too.
All beautiful. I just love your fabric choices in each of these.
Lots of fun and lovely blocks in the works, Gretchen. Looks like you have had a good week thus far.
I have the first 9 blocks done on my Laundry Basket. Heck I just quilted her 2020 mystery! I am so far behind. Love your blocks.
Your Stonefield's blocks are looking delightful! I hope the minimal instructions don't cause you a headache. (it's not good enough at that price).
I'm enjoying following the progress you are making with the Stonefield blocks. You do such a marvelous job fussy cutting and creating focal points for the blocks.
The Stonefields blocks look great. The directions are so little! Edyta's block looks great. The Designer Mystery BOM is a cutie!
Stonefield's blocks look pretty, the pattern is cute and fun despite the lack of instructions. Love the yellow accent! The two mysteries look beautiful too, I love the batiks on the 1st, and the sweet aqua and floral look of the 2nd. These little birds are very cute indeed! Thank you for sharing all your projects in progress and linking up.
The Stonefield blocks are very pretty. I really like all the other blocks that you are working on also.
Your blocks are all looking great!!! Although, Edyta didn't say to sew the centre block together, I don't think you'll need to unsew, because in the big picture of where the blocks go, those do make the centre block!
Thanks for linking to TGIFF!
All of the blocks for your QAL’s are beautiful Gretchen. How ambitious your are to be doing 3 at the same time. Thank you for sharing on hot Do Tuesday. 😁
These are fun - I like that Laundry Basket mystery - so pretty!
