I've been so good this year sticking to my list of projects and not getting side tracked however I got squirreled! I've succumbed to the Laundry Basket Mystery Quilt sew-along. It's weekly so at least I won't have to wait a month for the pattern like I do for the Designer Mystery sew-along and no, I did not order fabric from Edyta even though she has many beautiful fabric collections.
I came across several bags with fabrics that I had purchased for something else while organizing my sewing studio in July but those projects never happened. I pulled one of those bags for this project.
The fabrics are batiks that I purchased years ago. Yoder's had a quilt in display in their store that I thought was cute so I bought the kit. It was cute but I just didn't get it sewn, now it's time to use the fabrics.
Here are week one blocks, 9 square in a square blocks. I've used two different blue fabrics.
The fabrics actually have more of a slate blue appearance in real life. Don't worry, this isn't another blue & white quilt, there are also dark pink, green, brown and yellowish fabrics. The background fabric is a cream color, not white as they look in the blocks.
These hourglass blocks are set with five of the blocks from week 1, they make a star for the center of the quilt.
I hadn't planned to use blue for this week but I didn't think another color would look right. That is what the challenge is about mystery quilts, color placement!

What pretty blocks! I wanted to join that mystery, but I decided it wasn't for me when I couldn't even choose fabrics, sheesh.
Pretty block layout, when you click the kink its hard to walk away 🤣 I'm working on forgotten projects & UFO's but itching to start something new 🤣
I allowed myself to join in since I'm using an old fabric kit purchased years ago. If I don't like how the quilt ends up looking, it definitely will be come a compassion quilt.
What I really like about these blocks is the sharp contrast between the fabrics. So nice!
Your blocks are so pretty, Gretchen. Such lovely blue fabrics you are using. I am looking forward to following your progress. Have a blessed day. Hugs.
So great that you are using the fabrics from the stash for this sew-a-long! :)
A great start to your new project. xx
That loooks awesome! Cant wait to see how it goes :). Kathi
I'm always impressed with people who can do a mystery quilt - Our guild started one this summer and I recognized the style of the pattern and immediately went off to snoop and see if I liked it enough to spend the time making it. I look forward to seeing how yours turns out! Maybe it will convince me to start one and trust the process?
These blocks are adorable! Love the batiks! It's going to be a neat quilt!
You are off to a great start. It will be fun VAL (viewing along) while you piece this quilt.
Getting squirreled isn't bad! Besides you are using fabrics that you already had. . .sounds like a win to me!
Oooh, pretty blocks, and these batiks are wonderful. There are so many mystery QALs that it's hard not to do them all ;) Have fun with this one, as it's all the more satisfying because these are fabrics from your stash, found during the reorganization—nothing but pluses! Thank you for sharing and linking up!
I can't wait to see what this LBQ mystery quilt looks like! Great fabrics, Gretchen!
I'm following along with the mystery, but just not participating. LOVING yours along the way.
Oh what a lovely squirrel tho!!!
I’ve managed to avoid this QAL but after seeing yours I might have to succumb to the squirrels! Thank you for sharing on To Do Tuesday Gretchen. 😁 Carol
