Pastor's Attic Quilt

I've finished all the applique for my Pastor's Attic Quilt. The borders are sewn onto the body.

Pastor's Attic will be hand quilted. I've known how I wanted to quilt her even before I started the applique. However, she is going to need to be marked over the entire quilt and that is going to take awhile. My goal is to have her ready to go in the quilting frame by next fall.

If you look closely at the above photo, you will notice that I've  left the selvages on the borders. I like to do this so I don't need to zigzag the edge to keep them from raveling. I will cut the selvages off before sewing on the binding.

Here are pictures of the last 2 corners.

I finished appliqueing the first block November 7, 2015. You can read the post I wrote about it on my old Word Press blog

I made this quilt to prove to myself I could do it. As long as I own her, she'll never be used as a bed quilt, she's just for pretty.

The border of Star Dance will be the next applique project. I've started prepping the applique. Maybe next Sunday I'll something to show you.

Nearly Insane is in the quilting frame but not much quilting has happened. I've marked a simple cable on the outside border. The border is a busy fabric, you won't really see the quilting. I'll outline the zigzag border, the narrow borders will be stitched in the ditch. The blocks will each be quilted differently. A new quilting journey begins and will end sometime in the summer, I hope!

Pastor's Attic is beautiful and I like that you made just to know that you could. I look forward to seeing how you will quilt it. Nearly insane is very busy, but also very pretty. I think it will be a challenge to quilt and I wish you the best with the quilting this Spring and Summer. Star Dance is calm in comparison, but oh so pretty. I can't imagine having more than one quilt it the works at a time. Wow.

Looking forward to seeing your progress on Dear Jane and your applique on Star Dance and I'm going to miss Pastor's Attic :)

I had the Nearly Insane book at one time and really thought I would make this quilt but it was after I had made two Dear Jane quilts and I was completely burned out on that type of quilt. More and more I look at your quilt and love how it turned out. I think one thing that held me back was the color the original quilt was - I didn't like them at all but could never quite envision another color scheme to use. Now I might be able to but I'm so wrapped up in other quilts I don't know if I would ever have the time to do it!!
I'm so pleased you will be hand quilting this quilt that will be perfect for it.

I don't normally work on this many quilts at a time but this year is finish it up year and I'm trying do get projects into the flimsy state. Hopefully I'll have learned my lesson and do just 1 quilt at a time after this.

My calendar says summer isn't officially over until September 22nd which give me almost 6 months. I'm going to try to have it finished by then, guess we'll find out in September if I succeed!

When I finish quilting Nearly Insane, the plan is to put Pastor's Attic in the frame.

Pastors Attic is stunning and will be over-the-top when hand quilted. Definitely proof that you could do it. An applique border on Star Dance will be very pretty. Outline quilting the zig zig border would be a relaxing stitch IMHO. Stitching in the ditch on all the seams would make me insane.

This is a marvelous post. Congratulations on finishing your Pastor's Attic top! Did it feel weird to get to that point? I look forward to seeing how you want to quilt it. :) It has to be very nice to have Nearly Insane on the frame.

I did feel kind of at loose ends with the end of the applique but soon I'll be appliqueing on Star Dance. I enjoy hand quilting, I can't only quilt for 5 or 10 minutes, it turns into at least an hour or so.

If I get the seams pressed correctly, stitching in the ditch isn't hard. I don't mind it anyway.

Loved seeing the close ups of the last two corner blocks Gretchen your needle skills are incrediable. 3 very very different but all so beautiful quilts here to day. Pastors Attic is incredible and will look so beautiful displayed on a bed, but just for looks like all Baltimore quilts should be only for looking and removed before sleeping in the bed! Thats why there are so many antique ones they were just for looking and removed before sleeping. Cheers Glenda PS Do love the Star Dance would love to see that in my home LOL I'm making a Red and Green on white so will have some thing white then.
