Quarter Square Triangle Quilt

I sewed the leftover layer cake squares into a Quarter Square Triangle flimsy after I finished the Totally Tulips flimsy. I had originally planned to quilt this flimsy myself but then decided not to, I'm tired of machine quilting.

I took the flimsy to Dana Stalter for quilting and selected a dragonfly design. Normally I like quilting to be closer together but since these blocks are larger, they could handle a larger design. The blocks were set in a trip around the world design. It's not very obvious but Dana noticed and mentioned it to me when I picked up the finished quilt.

The quilting was done with light green thread.

I used the same backing fabric as the Designer Mystery quilt. I think this is a springy quilt and the green backing looks springy to me.

The finish quilt is 58" by 73". I could not have quilted a cute design like this, it would have been stitched in the ditch which would have been adequate but not cute. Now it's finished and ready to be gifted when needed.

What a lovely finish! The combination of the Quarter Square Triangle blocks and the dragonfly quilting design gives the quilt a fresh, cheerful feel that really suits the spring-inspired color palette. Sometimes handing a project over to a professional quilter is the perfect decision, especially when it allows the finished piece to have details that would be difficult to achieve on a home machine.

I also like the choice of the light green thread and backing fabric—they tie everything together nicely without overpowering the patchwork. At 58" x 73", it’s a great size for gifting, and it’s always satisfying to have a quilt finished and ready for the right recipient.

I totally understand about the machine quilting and that dragonfly pantograph made an awesome texture. Finished and ready for gifting is much better than waiting its turn to be quilted!

I've been solely doing hand work for the longest time. Have no clue what kind of machine piecing I'd even like to pick up. I've got a stack of flimsies that need to be pulled and gotten ready for sending out to the quilter. I guess I could do a couple of the smaller ones myself and save that cost. I do only loop de loops and meandering.

I usually end up stitching in the ditch or narrow straight stitching. I always tell myself when I'm machine quilting that I'm saving money!
