Stonefield's Quilt

The next group of Stonefield's blocks have been started, there aren't any completely pieced blocks in this group. There are several blocks that are pieced then have applique added so I pieced those blocks this week.

Blocks 14 & 15 are called Bordered 3/8" Hexagon.

Blocks 16 & 17 are named Square Peg in a Round Hole.

Blocks 21, 22 & 23 are called O for Oscar.

The blocks will look much more interesting when the applique is added.

These blocks are not yet trimmed to size, I'll do that after they're completely finished. These blocks were all pieced by the foundation paper pieced method.

Come back Sunday and see how many of the blocks are appliqued and finished by then.

Stonefields was designed by Susan Smith.

Lovely soft fabrics! Can't wait to see what the applique adds to these blocks. Thanks for sharing on my weekly show and tell, Wednesday Wait Loss.

You are just cruising along, Gretchen! I have questions (again!). I am still prepping Month One applique (with a little bit of stitching where I wanted to trim before placing the next pieces) and I am struggling with the pattern. Is your copy of the pattern printed with extremely faint lines or did I just get a copy made when someone's printer was on draft mode by mistake or running out of ink? I am using my light box with the LED light turned all the way up and even though I'm using that thin, almost lawn like cotton for my background fabric, I am really struggling trying to see the lines of the pattern through my fabric to position my appliqué shapes. For the orange peels I just folded my fabric vertically, horizontally and diagonally for placement fold lines but that didn't work as well for some of the others. I have used the clear vinyl overlay method that Piece O Cake Becky Goldsmith teaches but that is even MORE prep work, tracing all the applique patterns onto the clear vinyl, and I have no idea where in all my craft supplies that leftover roll of vinyl might be. I thought of just eyeballing placement on all of the blocks since my goal is not necessarily mathematical symmetry but more of a handmade organic look, but "winging it" makes me nervous with my blocks oversized; I'm afraid I might accidentally encroach on the seam allowances once the blocks are trimmed. Is there some other way that I'm missing? Your blocks are inspiring me to keep going; they're lovely!
