Stonefields, Blocks 9, 10, 11, 12 & 13

Prepping these little applique blocks takes so much time while stitching them goes fast. This week I completed five blocks . . .

Blocks 9 & 10 - Gateau de St Honore

Block 11 - Willie's Birthday

There were supposed to have been two Willie's Birthday blocks but I don't like the design so I only made one. Then I made a mistake with the one block I did piece, I traced the design the wrong way 😖. I went ahead and used the pieces even though they're spinning the wrong direction. I'll let you know if Susan Smith sends me an email of complaint.

Blocks 12 & 13 - Posy Pot

I'm trimming each block to size after it's completed so all they're ready go sew into a flimsy when all the blocks are finished.

I think the Posy Pot block is the cutest block of the blocks completed so far. I made two of them since I only made one block 11.

The blocks finish at 6".

Stonefields was designed by Susan Smith and can be purchased online from various places, just google it. My pattern was kindly gifted to me several years ago by Nanette after she finished her Stonefields quilt, she had Rebecca Grace quilt it.

I was in Wakarusa last week so I took pictures of the quilt gardens. The first garden is the one at Grandma's Pantry.

And the garden in downtown Wakarusa.

This lady gets to drive around town and water all the hanging baskets and village planted flowers.

All those blue fabrics are so pretty. A lot of care and imagination has gone into the quilt gardens in Wakarusa. All those flowers; just beautiful.

Oh, a gâteau Saint-Honoré block! Very like the real cake, and yummy all the same ;) I agree too, Posy Pot are both very cute. Love to see the photos of the Quilt Gardens. Thank you for sharing and linking up today!

Oh the posy pot block is adorable!!! That's my favorite one of these so far too. Glad you made two of them. Your scrap choices are stunning.
The flower blocks are growing in so nicely. The lady that gets to water all of them looks to have a fun job. I'd be up for that--but I wouldn't like to be the "weeder". I'm sure they use great (clean) soil and products to not have as many weeds as I do here. Happy sewing.

Now see, the leaves don't look weird at all on your Posy Pot blocks! They looked weird to me on the pattern sheet and I was/am considering changing them. I did not know that Gateau St. Honore was a cake until I read Frederique's comment; then I googled it and I am delighted because the block DOES look like the cake! Thanks for the reminder about reversing the directional templates although I don't know that there's really any such thing as "backwards" for that block. Why didn't you like that block, by the way? Don't you care for the look of it, or did you just not enjoy making it and didn't want to make another one? I am stepping away from the computer RIGHT THIS MINUTE to start picking fabrics for my orange peels!

The design reminds me of a swastika! I really considered not putting this block in my quilt but thought maybe it was my imagination so I did make 1 block.

Yes! Prepping applique does take forever and the stitching goes so fast! I’m glad to find someone who feels the same way I do! 😊
Your blocks are precious, especially with your fussy cuts and fabric combinations! Posy Pot is so pretty!
Beautiful photos of the gardens! Can you imagine the planning that went into the Quilt Gardens?

Your blocks are so pretty , Gretchen. They look like they would have been relaxing to work on. The gardens are so pretty. A lot of work has been put into them. Have a wonderful week.Hugs.

Willies Birthday is called a Lauburu and is a Basque symbol from the south of France. A Nazi swastika has straight arms. Your blocks are looking great and the gardens must be at their best. xx

I know it's NOT a swastika but it reminds me of one for some reason. Once I thought that, I just can't get it out of my mind. I'm not targeting any ethnic group, I see what I see!

Your applique is just gorgeous! I'll be interested to see if Susan Smith writes you - lol! I always enjoy your quilt garden photos. I want that water lady's job!

Wakarusa looks like an amazing place to visit - the gardens are really something! Posy Pot is adorable, so I think you chose well to make 2 of that block instead of the one you don't like as much. All are so cute in those pretty shades of blue.

Your blocks are coming along nicely. No one would know you turned the twirl a different direction, except the designer. Smart of you to trim as you finish. It's going to be a lovely quilt.
