The 2nd corner of Blueberry Pie is appliqued. You will have to settle for an indoor picture, it's been very breezy this week then it rained. I didn't want the flimsy outside in those conditions.
And, in case you are wondering, no, I never did find the missing fabric. You can't tell it though in the picture, the substitute fabric is the same value as the first fabric.
I want to add a dark blue border to the outside of the gray borders but I haven't decided how wide to make them. Originally I had planned to have all four corners appliqued but I've run out of applique energy. I can quilt faster than I can applique. I haven't measured blueberry pie because I need to trim off the selvage before adding the blue border.
The pattern for Blueberry Pie is found in the Red, White and Sometimes Blue book but it's not called Blueberry Pie, you'll find it listed as Writer's Block. I thought the name was rather unimaginative so I changed it to reflect the blues used in my quilt.
The pattern in the book does NOT have an applique border, this is my addition. The border is a variation of the center medallion from the Lady Jane pattern, designed by Nancy Rink.
I was informed by someone in the 'know' several years ago that floral couches are out of style. I don't have the patience to keep up with trends, our grandsons love that couch and would miss it if we got rid of it.
I'm getting ready to leave for the Jane Stickle retreat Wednesday so there won't be a post next Sunday.
Here is a picture of another one of my Christmas cactus. It's a very pretty variegated salmon and white.

It gave me a chuckle to hear your couch was out of style. These days the style changes way to often for me to worry about what's trending. And if it ain't broke don't fix it. Antiques and retro never go out of style. To the home decor expert, having good manners never goes out of style.
You'd never know you had to substitute a fabric. The applique is beautiful. Enjoy your retreat, hope you get lots done. Our last quilt was a huge floral. Everyone in the family but me hated it. I was sad to see it go. So if you like it, it doesn't matter what the current trend is. How often do people get couches? Ours lasted twenty something years.
Gosh I can't tell any difference in your fabric, not even sure which one it is! I still love floral sofas. We had one custom made in the 1980s. It was in our formal living room, and we still miss it. At the same time, we had a large comfy sectional in our family room that was also our favorite of all time. Our grown kids still talk about it. The good ol' days - lol!
the applique is pretty I always use a variety so I don't worry about matching up. I know floral fabric is out for couches and chairs but sometimes the older furniture is still the most comfortable!
If you want it, couch fabrics are never out of style. If you don't, then its gone. Mama drilled into my head to never follow the leader just for the sake of following. Her questions was, "if everybody else jumped off a cliff, would you?" I love that blue quilt.
Your quilt is lovely and will look awesome with one corner appliqued. I like asymmetrical designs. Don't listen to people who put you or your belongings down. Everyone has their own style and I'm sure they would be amazed at all the floral couches that are in peoples' homes right now. Our couch isn't floral, but it is something many others wouldn't like. It's super comfortable and held up well to a 75 Lb. fur grandbaby who loved to jump up and sit with us. We'll be replacing it soon, and the replacement will be as close as we can get to this one. Thanks for your great blog.
Blueberry Pie is gorgeous. One of my couches is floral, I didn't know it was out of style, but don't care anyway. Your cactus is beautiful. I just repotted two of mine yesterday. Happy stitching!
Your applique for Blueberry Pie is just gorgeous, Gretchen! I like different blues all mixed together. Our couch is at least 25 years old (maybe more), so I'm sure it has gone in and out of style multiple times. I say, stick with what your family likes!
Wonderful applique. I'm sure you will have a great time at the retreat.
Such lovely applique. Who cares if it is out of fashion - if it's comfortable that is all that matters. There is too much waste in the world already without worrying about furniture going out of style! Cactus looks lovely - mine is covered in buds but nothing open yet. Enjoy your retreat. xx
Wow!! Your decision to do the applique takes a mostly simple design into the "work of art" category. Really beautiful.
Your applique looks lovely! No one will ever know that there is a different fabric. As for "stylish" furniture... We replace it when it necessary. Not to stay up with the trends. Thanks for sharing in my Sew & Tell party
I never care what is in style or out of style. I buy or reupholster in fabrics that make me happy. Blueberry pie is looking great.
What a stunning quilt! I look forward to watching your progress.
