June RSC, Modern Amish

The RSC color for June is pink but I sewed pink blocks for Modern Amish in May so for June I pieced red blocks.

I've said before I'm not good at BOM's, I get impatient and want to get the quilt into the flimsy stage, so I did!

I love it!  He measures 60" by 85" at this point.

I had 4 background fabrics, light gray, medium gray, dark gray and black. I pieced more blocks than I needed. All of the blocks with the darker background fabric were used but not the blocks with the light gray background, they just made the quilt too light.

The original pattern, called Sound Check, comes from McCalls Quilting, March/April 2014 magazine and was designed by John Kubiniec.

I know the skill level says beginner, but sometimes it's fun to do an easy quilt! I've been wanting to make this quilt every since I saw the pattern 6 years ago. It's time has come in 2020.

I took these pictures with the early morning light, before the sun was up. It's so nice to see bright sunlight again. Last winter lasted way too long.

Since it was early in the morning, I disturbed the bull in the pasture to the south of the house.

He had to do his bellow, paw the ground and make the dust fly, then he posed nicely for a side shot.

It's beautiful. Sometimes you just have to do an easy pattern, great way to relax in these stressful times ... and the result is so cheerful and fresh.

You know I am ready to just quilt! I really do like this Amish quilt - so striking. You did 2 things, met the RSC goal and finished a quilt top! Cute little bull! Animals are so much fun to watch - they develop their own personality!

As long as you are USING your scraps, it's perfectly OK to jump ahead during the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!! That quilt top turned out SEW well. It's a pattern that I've had on my To Make list, as well.

This is gorgeous - my favorite quilt patterns are always patchwork squares - no matter what, I love them best. This is a great RSC project and one I may need to start. Even though we are mid way through the year, I just love this. Now you will have to start another RSC project!!

I need to get it quilted first before starting another RSC project. I'm thinking that might be the sprout quilt. They're so beautiful!

I love the look of this quilt, Gretchen! It really is modern and fresh, and it doesn't matter that the pattern is labeled beginner. It doesn't look simple to make at all!

Your Sound Check quilt looks wonderful, quite a masculine design isn't it. Are you keeping this one?

This quilt is a Christmas present for a grandson so I'm not keeping it for myself but it is staying in the family.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with doing an "easy" pattern. Lots of times they turn out the most beautiful. I think that may be why I'm enjoying my Awesome Land blocks. Gives the brain a rest in between other more challenging works! Love the bull .... does he have a name?

Gretchen Weaver said...

I think I'll be making another quilt from this easy design, it's a great pattern for charity quilts. The bull's name is Motivator, Mo for short.

Great quilt, and great photos! I'm sure your grandson will love it. Your young bull is awesome, too.

I love it. You did a good job. I love Amish and Civil War so this one pressed my "Amish" button! LOL

Yes, an easy pattern can be just the right thing. I get that way with my sewing. I want something ai can just pop off in an afternoon after a detailed project. The quilt is a great guy quilt.🙂
