Here is my update on my retreat last week. I had several projects prepped, just in case, but I only worked on two of them.
The main project was foundation paper-piecing Carolina Lily blocks, 20 of them! I had paper pieced the green stem sections ahead of time, all the lily sections were pieced at retreat.
Here are the other 19 blocks.
Foundation paper-piecing is time consuming but it doesn't take a lot of thread. I used one bobbin for all of these blocks and it wasn't empty when I was ready to leave for home.
I'm using fabrics I already have on hand, I have a variety of green and red fabrics to use. All fabrics are going into this quilt from fossil fern to my mother's old 80's & 90's fabrics.
Now I have a total of 50 blocks, just 50 more to piece!
The other project was to applique Stonefield blocks. Three blocks were completed but you have to wait until Sunday to see them.

Your foundation paper piecing blocks are absolutely beautiful... I'm so tempted to make some myself, they look so perfectly precise... each one just like the next... I once sewed little stars using this technique.
It will be lovely to follow your work.
Warmest regards, Viola
Love your Carolina Lily blocks. That was a lot to accomplish at the retreat!
Oh I love those lilies so much!!!! I'm also tempted to make some. You got so much done at retreat!!! Wow!
Halfway. . .how awesome that must feel. I'm impressed you were able to have enough fabrics of the stems to match to the lily. If it had been me, I'd have ended up with a bunch of one value stems against lilies with another green color! Your blocks are wonderful!
I pieced the lily blocks with the reds, then when I was ready for the green triangles, I matched the red sections with the green section. Then I sewed the green triangle on the bottom of the red sections. It may sound confusing but it worked for me!
These are stunning, Gretchen. I love the bright greens mixed with the forest greens. The scrappy reds are fun.
What a great retreat project! Pretty blocks. Well done!
Ohoh, it looks like it was a very productive retreat! Your NCL blocks are beautiful, pretty reds and greens. Enjoy sewing the last 50 blocks ;) Thank you for sharing and linking up.
Those blocks are so pretty.
You are making good headway on the lilies!
The lilies are absolutely gorgeous!
