Stonefields

Section five from Stonefields has been started, there are 6 pieced blocks in this section.

The first 4 blocks are called Strasbourg Station.

Here are all 4 of them together. The blocks with the darker triangle corners look different than the ones with the light corners.

The next 2 blocks are named The Handkerchief.

I like to make a contrast between the blocks.

The instructions called for 3 of these blocks but I'm going to make two of a different applique block because I like even numbers.

These blocks finish at 6". Stonefields is designed by Susan Smith.

I got way behind on the Laundry Basket Mystery quilt. I redid the corner blocks which was week 5 of the mystery.

Originally I had pieced pink blocks for the corners but changed them to blue. After I returned home from my vacation, I pieced the next round of blocks. After they were all completed, I realized I had made a mistake in cutting, they didn't work.

I thought about it and decided I just don't like these fabrics, I don't like the faded look, I'm done with this mystery! However I do like the pattern, maybe I'll start again sometime and use fabrics I like. Who knows, maybe I'll end up with another blue & white quilt!

I am just in love with all your Stonefields blocks. I like your mystery quilt. If you are done with it, will it become a small quilt, or is it destined to be a UFO?

The center, along with the fabric, will end up at the sewing box at the relief sale. Someone who loves the fabric can decide what to do with it. Sometimes you have to say enough and I already have enough orphan blocks in my orphanage!

That is the sweetest little bird in your Handkerchief block!!!

So sorry the mystery didn't work out, but it's best not to put time into something you don't love when there are so many other quilts out there to make! Thanks for sharing on my weekly show and tell, Wednesday Wait Loss.

It's interesting how different blocks look when fabrics are reversed. When you do that, it's like a whole different pattern than just one repeating. Very nice.

Your Stonefields blocks are so pretty in all their blues! I'm enjoying following your progress.

I would like to know how to do the corners on those Handkerchief blocks

Gretchen Weaver said...

I mitered them like I do when I miter corners on a quilt, I didn't know how else to do them.

Look at you go on those Stonefields blocks! WHOOSH! I am in love with that sweet little bird you fussy cut for the center of that handkerchief block, and mitering like you would do a quilt border was a great idea. I am sitting in the airport right now waiting to fly out of Florida for good. My Stonefields project is on a United Van Lines truck with my sewing machines and all of my worldly possessions…. I hope they make it to North Carolina safely!

I hope too all your belongings make it safely to Charlotte. And I hope you are NOT hosting Thanksgiving for your family (besides your sons). Take a year off, get organized and settled then plan to spend New Year's Day appliqueing Stonefield blocks!

Just goes to show how much colour choice makes a difference - in your Strasbourg blocks and in the mystery quilt. xx

Your Stonefield's blocks are beautiful. And I like the one that she calls the center block in your last post. I've had the pattern for quite awhile. I pull it out once or twice a year and then put it back. I am seriously thinking about starting along with you girls.

You are welcome to join in, we're all working at our own pace. Do you know what fabrics you'll use?

Your stonefield blocks are stunning. I love the one with the bird in it. You just articulated why I don't do mysteries. I like to know ahead of time what the quilt will look like==before I cut my fabrics. That said, I do like your block! Have a lovely day!

You have the best blue fabric. I would love to go "shopping" in your stash. Your piecing is immaculate. The way you fussy cut the bird fabric for the handkerchief block is genius.

Your Stonefield blocks are so pretty, Gretchen. I am very fond of the block with the birdie in it- precious. Your mystery quilt is gorgeous; I am sure it will find a good home at the relief sale. Happy quilting.

Stonefields will be gorgeous! I am doing my Laundry Mystery in Christmas colors so I can have a seasonal quilt. But I am way behind!!! It will likely not be in use this Christmas. LOL

The variety and of your blue fabric always awes me! You make such fun blocks and projects with that fabric. I enjoy seeing each project. As for the mystery, good for you to say enough. Sometimes a project just doesn't work; but, does for someone else!

I like how the first four Stonefield blocks look so different with just the fabric values changed. I like the fussy cut hankerchief block. I'm sorry your latest mystery quilt is not working for you.

Your new Stonefields blocks are beautiful, and I love how you play with fabrics to make them so different from each other. The little bird in the center is adorable. Too bad for the mystery, but you are right not to continue something you don't enjoy. I like this block though, it would be a great baby quilt.
Thank you for sharing your new blocks and linking up, I can't wait to see the next ones!
