I've started section 3 of the Stonefields quilt. Blocks 26 & 27 are both the same design called The Semi Circles. I looked at that design and thought no way, not in my quilt! I think Susan was struggling to think of something pretty when she came up with the semi circle idea.
I changed block 26 to an embroidery design I came across several weeks ago. Those are little 1/2" hexies around the center.
I tried to fussy cut the hexies, they didn't turn out like I had planned but I'm not changing them. I might substitute this block again for another disliked block but I'll add circles instead of hexies next time.
This cute little embroidery was designed by Karen Styles, Somerset Patchwork. You can find the Somerset Patchwork website here then click Love & Hugs from Australia.
For block 27, I appliqued this floral circle onto background fabric.
I really like this floral fabric, I've used it in several other blocks in the Stonefields quilt. The hexies in the embroidered block came from the same fabric, this is border fabric left from the Lady Jane quilt.
Blocks 28 & 29 are named Paper Flowers.
I wish now I would have added leaves, they look rather stark.
I used the same stems for both blocks, it's bias vine left from the applique of Blueberry Pie. I hadn't intended to use this dark of blue fabric in this quilt but I way over estimated the amount of stem needed for Blueberry Pie. Waste not! I think that blue bias will be seen in future quilts also.
As a reminder, these blocks will finish at 6". Stonefields is designed by Susan Smith.

Gail at the cozy quilter.
This is going to be a gorgeous quilt. Your fabrics look so pretty in these blocks, and the embroidery is such a nice touch.

All of your blocks are beautiful. Happy stitching this week.
Your blocks are beautiful. You have such a good eye for combinations.
These blocks are absolutely gorgeous!
So pretty! I love the embroidery you did in block 26 and I like the hexies around it!
Your embroidered design is lovely with those floral hexies! That is a great idea. I’ve been experimenting with fussy cutting and have decided it’s an art that requires more study on my part. Your work is lovely.
I like your variation of block 26. The embroidery is great and the hexagons add dimension in a different way!
I am enjoying seeing each of these blocks as you work on them , Gretchen. You get me in the mood to work on applique myself. The embroidery is darling and love the little flower blocks . Enjoy your day.
I'm not a quilter, but certainly appreciate all the design elements that go into a gorgeous quilt. Painting with fabric is always a treat...for the eyes, and warm and cozy, too. Sandi
I love your circle of hexies!
I'm enjoying your posts on your 'Stonefield's' progress. Love the little hexis in your 1st pic, delightfully teamed up with the embroidery.
The blue and white floral fabric is gorgeous - you are making good use of it. xx
Oh my - 6" blocks are tricky enough when they are pieced, but these tiny applique blocks are amazing. So pretty - and that dark blue is looking great as stems. A pop of dark blue here and there. Can't wait to see these all together.
I love these blocks and I like the one you substituted as well! That fabric is GORGEOUS!
I admire people like you that does these awesome quilting. Something I have never tried my hand at, so I will just enjoy what you do.

I love your new blocks, and how you change them to suit your tastes ;)) #26 looks like a Chinese porcelain plate, precious and elegant, very pretty! Cute little paper flowers too, the dark stems are perfect. Thank you for sharing and linking up.
Beautiful blocks, Gretchen! You know, you could add some of those little leaves that are pointy at both sides to your Paper Flowers block if you wanted, the kind that don't need to tuck under the stems. I know there is a template small enough for that in Karen Kay Buckley's Perfect Leaves template set. I think the simplicity of the "stick flowers" works with the overall aesthetic of the quilt as Susan created hers, and if you want to embellish with leaves for your version that's okay too. So you didn't like the Semi Circles blocks? I love that one! I'm planning to make full circles with my KKB Perfect Circles templates and then trim the excess even with the block edges after glue basting them in place for stitching. Of course I still have all of my Month Two blocks to make before I get to these! Your substitution blocks are beautiful and look like much more work than Semi Circles, with all those little hexies!
I'm glad you like the semi circles, those are probably less work than what I made but I'm happy with my blocks. I'll probably leave the stick stems alone, more simplistic this way.
Beautiful blog
