It's taken me several months to find my handwork mojo again. I enjoy hand applique, it's just all the time that goes into the preparation before I can actually applique that is so tiresome.
Finally, the applique borders for Blueberry Pie have started. There isn't much to see, just appliqued vine so far.
I have Lady Jane hanging in the dining room area. I really like the center medallion applique.
I took the center medallion and altered it to become the border design for Bluebery Pie. This obviously isn't a professional layout but it works for me!
I cut the bias vine fabric at 3/4" wide then used a 3/8" Clover bias tape maker to make the bias vine. When I marked the quilt, I only made a single line for the vine.

I was in Wakarusa a week and a half ago, and took pictures of the quilt garden, it's really growing!

I think one of the reasons that I have not tried applique is the work needed to prep the pieces. I don't mind cutting fabric in strips or squares or diamonds with a rotary cutter, but cutting out shaped pieces and making bias vines would frustrate me. I love how you altered that center medallion pattern to use for your border. Blueberry Pie is going to be beautiful.

Very good on getting back to stitching Blueberry Pie. Totally agree, applique prep work is time consuming as I’m recently learning. The border designed from another quilt qualifies as professional in my opinion. Frixion pens scare me.

There is a lot of work in prepping for applique, but look at the end results and you know it was worth it. Love what you have done for the border.
Lady Jane is beautiful, I love that design. Applique is my favorite and haven't done it for a long time. I need to prep some UFOs I have around here. Love seeing the quilt garden pics!
Gretchen... this blueberry pie is AMAZING ... LADY JANE looks astounding on that wall ... I love it's position on the table in front of it below the medallion center! I like you sharing pics of the quilt garden each year... they put lots of work into that!
Blueberry pie border may take a minute.. but that quilt is gonna be awesome I am sure... cuz it already is!

I don't press hard with the pen, more of a light sketching. It always irons out for me.
I love your Pie quilt. I agree about taking time to prep. That is one reason I've switched to Back Basting.
I love your new design, well done for adapting it to the border. It's going to be a gorgeous appliqué, even if the preparation time is long, it's worth it!

Your Lady Jane quilt is absolutely stunning! Modifying the center block for the border on your Blueberry Pie quilt is very creative. The quilt garden is beautiful, too!
Will you just be appliqueing the corners of the quilt? That would be beautiful and really set it off.

Lady Jane is beautiful hanging there on your wall! We've carried a lot of Nancy Rink's BOM patterns at the quilt shop where I work and they're always popular. Love that quilt garden! Best wishes on the appliqué border for Blueberry Pie. I have an appliqué border I keep procrastinating on myself...

What a wonderful adaptation of your former pattern for the Blueberry Pie. It will be amazing. I am always amazed at how much prep work our appliques require. But you especially excel in needlework!!!!
