Lady Jane is a Complete Finish!

I started piecing Lady Jane early in 2021 and finished the flimsy in October that year. She went into the quilting frame in January this year and now the quilting is finished!

As you can tell when you look at the pictures, Lady Jane is not closely quilted.

Here is a closer picture of the applique center.

Some of those gray squares have a green tint, they look normal in reality.

Here are photos of the square blocks.

I can't get a good picture of the backing fabric so I googled it. Here is a link to a picture of Classic by Oasis Fabrics 18-401. Scroll down a little on the page, it's the large picture. Just so you know, I purchased the fabric at Calico Point, a local fabric store only 3 miles from my house. And I definitely did NOT pay $19/yard for the fabric, I won't spend that much. I think I paid $13/yard for my backing.

Our daughter was visiting last week so I recruited the farmer and her as quilt holders. The farmer does not enjoy this at all! After they were finished, he walked around the yard looking for a place to put a clothesline for displaying quilts so he won't have to do it. Hopefully he has a plan.

I do need to add a sleeve to Lady Jane then she'll be on display in our home. Yes, Lady Jane is staying here with me. Someday she'll be gifted to one of our granddaughters.

For the last time for this quilt, here is a link to the Lady Jane pattern.

What a wonderful heirloom you have made!!! Lady Jane is so gorgeous! Love the applique so much and the quilting!!!! I was glad you showed the back so I could see the quilting more (like you, I would never spend $19 on a yard of fabric). Making the farmer hold quilts up is one way to get a clothesline!!! :D That cracked me up! Have a great day Gretchen and congratulations on a quilt that is timeless and gorgeous!

Hi Gretchen! I just love your Lady Jane finish!!! I love the farmer and daughter visiting holding the quilt up for ya! I love the washed and dried block close ups but the backside shot is amazing 🤩!!!
Your stitches are so pretty and lovingly stitched to enjoy and pass forward sometime if you desire! Lots of work in this one too!

Dear Gretchen,

Lady Jane is a beauty! My hubby always enjoys the reveal when the quilting is done. He says it ad vibrancy and life to a quilt. A clothes line sounds like a wonderful idea. The back real shows the quilting and it is beautiful. What are you working on next? Or should I not ask. Have an awesome day.

the quilt turned out great - for a wide back that price really isn't unusual - that is 36" by 118". I prefer to buy wide backs as I don't like piecing backings and then there are less seams to quilt through - but I do not have any local shop to purchase at so I don't know what the price for fabric is like at your shop.

What a beautiful finish! I chuckled over your "farmer" and his searching for an appropriate place for a clothesline so he can be released from a honey-do request! LOL

Wow, amazing, Gretchen!!! And your backing fabric is beautiful, too. Is the backing fabric really 118" wide? I know 108" wide backing but hadn't heard of 118". Job well done!!!

Spectacular! I have so enjoyed watching this quilt through all the stages. I can't wait to see what 'holder' the farmer comes up with for future showings.

It’s fabulous! It’s a great heirloom quilt! Hope there is a clothesline in your future! Giggle! I finally got some clamps I can squeeze and have a place on a back fence that works for most quilts! A huge sigh was heard from inside the shop! ! 😉

What a beautiful finish! I love all of the different quilting designs you used and the amount of quilting is just right. My husband and your farmer must be kindred spirits -- I have exactly such a clothes line installed in my back yard, despite our homeowners' association's prohibition against them, and for exactly the same quilt photographing purposes. However, a clothesline for photographing bed size quilts has to be pretty high, which means my husband has to get out a ladder and climb up there himself to pin the top edge of a quilt to the clothes line before we can take any pictures. I don't think he thought that through... ;-)

Lady Jane is a wonderful beauty! Perfect quilting and very pretty pattern. How fun to have four hands to hold the quilt during the photo shoot, and great to have very soon a place to hang them during the process ;))
Enjoy admiring your beautiful quilt in your home.
