Wintersweet Finish!

My Wintersweet quilt is a flimsy! This is such a simple pattern but so cute!

Right now wintersweet is 75" square but I think it looks unfinished. If I add partial 9 patch blocks, the chain will be completed and bring the size to 82". What do you think?

I found this red & white stripe in my stash to use for binding but there is only a fat quarter. A variety of red fabrics will be used along with the striped fabric.

Wintersweet is a free pattern from Cake Stand Quilts. I want to make this pattern in other colorways too. I can see it in spring fabrics, autumn fabrics and let's not forget blue and yellow fabrics!

I've start prepping fabrics for another Christmas quilt, this one utilizes a charm pack of Christmas fabrics I purchased a long long long time ago.

It is a simple, beautiful quilt and looks perfect in Christmas colors, I like your idea of adding partial 9 patch blocks, the red binding will be perfect.

So pretty, the classic Irish Chain is always a winner and so versatile.

I bought red solid and white as well as a candybcane fabric for binding, now to choose the perfect Christmas pattern.

The red stripe will be the perfect finish! I love this simple quilt pattern and have been wanting to make it since she first posted the free pattern. I'm off to dig in the stash, might need to work this into the UFO busting.

Your Wintersweet top looks great, but I agree that it would be even better with the half blocks to finish the chains.

I think that extra border would be fun! And help the quilt look complete is my 2 cents.... I am sure no matter which you decide you will enjoy using this in the winter and making more for other months.... Have fun deciding!
Can't wait to see the quilt you make with a charm pack!

Beyond Beeeauuutifullll!!!
I'm totally with you on the partial 9Ps to complete the Irish Chain. I'm the same as you that an Irish Chain never looks finished the way most patterns show it and like to see it completed out to the edge. Perfect time for a scrappy binding of assorted reds, but I think I would leave out the candy stripe. Or maybe treat yourself and buy just enough candy stripe to do it all (no leftovers!). You deserve it!

expanding it with an extra border will be good but could be finished as it is now

I like this quilt as it is, but if it feels unfinished to you the addition of the small blocks will be beautiful also. I like the idea of a scrappy red binding.

I have to always "finish" the pattern. It sometimes gives great sizes, sometimes a bit off, but it always looks so much better to me. Go for it girl! What a pretting, delicate quilt.

I love this, even if you add nothing else it will still be a beautiful quilt. Thank you for linking up to PYFD

It's lovely as is, but I might add a plain 2-inch border all around to protect those edge seams. Great finish!

Looks like the best way to bring it up in size. The stripe will be an amazing binding.

Dear Gretchen,
It looks beautiful and continue to extend the nine patch blocks would be a great way to grow the quilt. Love the striped fabric, maybe making magic binding with that as the flange part that just shows. With a plain colour for the rest of the magic binding?
Have a wonderful day.

Lovely! I tend to like my quilts on the larger size so I vote for adding the extra bits.

I agree with finishing the chains. You could handle it by making partial blocks or a border. No matter what you choose it will make festive piece.

Wow, this is a beautiful top, I love it in red and green, and for sure it's going to be a lovely one in blue and yellow too ;) I like the partial blocks to complete the chain.
Thank you for sharing, and linking up!

So pretty! I am instantly attracted to chain quilts since I started a plain irish chain quilt myself. Yours is very sweet.

I would continue the chain. Will you also continue the red to the same point in the pattern or leave large white half blocks that you do quilting in?

Gretchen Weaver said...

No, I won't continue the red blocks. The space will just be white fabric.

I believe a red border would really make the quilt pop! I love this pattern. I am working on cutting scraps - and I am planning on using it with this pattern. Hugs
