I had originally thought about using black for the alternate squares but thought it would be too dark. I found yardage of blue Kona in the solids tub, perfect!
The quilting is 1/2" from the edge of the seams. I see now I missed a quilting row 1/2" from the edge of the bottom border. The border edge is stitched in the ditch. Oh well, I'm calling it finished.
I had 4 patches left so I used them on the back of the quilt. Those spots are from the dew on the grass.
I took the pictures of Amish 4 patch and Modern Amish the same day. After the photo op, I washed them, then hung them on the line to dry. Of course I took a picture! After washing, Amish 4 patch measures 58" by 70".

I think that pretty bright blue makes a great background! What size are your 4 patches? I'm working on a similar quilt and wondering how many blocks I need.
The squares were cut at 2-1/2", finish at 2", so the 4 patch block finishes at 4". Looking forward to seeing your finished flimsy. Happy stitching!
Hi Gretchen! Both quilts are lovely but I'm partial to the four-patch. That Kona blue is just the perfect choice to offset those wonderful foursies. Thanks for linking up today. ~smile~ Roseanne
I agree! I love the four patch but it wouldn't have existed without the first one. Beautiful!
Love the blue background. It really embraces the 4-patches and makes them special.
My 4 patches finish at 3, and I'm sewing them into double 4 patches that finish at 6. Right now I have about 30 blocks, so a ways to go yet!
The blue background is so pretty! I love Amish quilts and this one is a great representation!
Such gorgeous quilts!
both are beautiful - very amish looking too
What a lovely finish, Gretchen! I especially love the row of 4 patches on the backing side.
Another lovely finish! In other news, did you know: Many house plants love time outside in the summer, a slightly protected spot with some sunshine? Like Christmas cactus, spider plant, and others.
What a wonderful way to use up your scraps! Both are so lovely. Thanks for sharing on Wednesday Wait Loss.
Both of these are great finishes. Congrats!
Amish 4 patch quilt: ❤😍❤😍 !!
I do love that blue background Gretchen!
Hello Gretchen,
Great to see all the plain fabrics. I love Amish quilts. The 4 Patch really captures the Amish style.
Thank you for linking up with Free Motion Mavericks!
