Slow Stitching Sunday

I'm finished with the first partial block of Patchwork of the Crosses by Lucy Boston.

Most of the Lucy blocks I've seen have used civil war reproduction fabrics. All of the pieces are fussy cut and they're beautiful! I'm not fussy cutting all my pieces, some but not all.

And yes, I'm thread basting right through the paper onto the fabric. I like stability! I glue basted the stars in fussy cut stars and didn't like it. I've also experimented with the technique where you baste the corners of the fabric on the back of the  papers, I didn't like that either. I want the papers to stay in the project until I decide I want them removed.

This afternoon I'll be working on the second block.

This is a lovely block. The fussy cut fabrics really make the block pop. Love the colour and patterns of the fabric you have used.

I especially like the central section of the block. The flower and leaf looking design drawns your eye right there.

lovely block. for my Lucy Boston I didn't fussy cut most of the pieces and used some bright colors - I think I combined several fabric lines that were more modern that I normally use.

I'm with you on going through the paper on EPP blocks. I don't care for the glue basting, though it is fast. I always seem to damage my edges when I take out the glue basted papers. I know that means I use too much glue, but if I use less, the papers pop out when I'm stitching the pieces together. I'll go 'old school', thanks.

I love how your block is turning out and I love the parts you are fussy cutting and I like that you chose not to fussy cut others! lol
I am about to start my first EPP project and wonder why you didn't like the gluing technique. I will try them all with my project if I don't like gluing as the maker of my pattern says her templates stay well with glue and remove when done easily too.. it is only a 20" square of a pattern so I won't work on it forever I don't think! lol
Thanks for the info and for sharing your lovely block Gretchen!
