I found the blog Fairies & Fibres hosted by Karen H several years ago. She is an EPP extraordinaire but she also has some interesting quilt patterns for pieced quilts. Click on quilts by Karen H. in the heading of her blog and scroll down.
Several years ago I made her pattern, Cherry Blossoms. Of course I made the quilt larger than her pattern and added the pieced border.
I've always wanted to make her 9-Patches & Baskets pattern. I can't believe I did this during the summer, but I actually started the quilt last week. Many years ago I sewed strips and pieces and made a large quantity of 3" finished 9-patch blocks. I used some of them in my double 9-patch quilt but I still had a large basket of the blocks left, perfect for Karen's quilt. I've run out of 9-patches that have neutral corners so I'll finish the quilt another day. This was a fun and quick piecing project since I had most of the 9-patches already pieced.
Of course I modified the pattern to suit me. My quilt is going to be king sized. Also all of Karen's 9-patches had dark corners. I pieced my quilt with alternating 9-patches so they would interlock with each other.
I'm going go through the small pieces of fabrics around here and make more 9-patches. Hopefully I'll have enough pieced to finish piecing this quilt sometime this winter.
I need to add 3 more rows with the blue squares (already pieced) and 4 more rows of 9-patches.
I'll worry about piecing the basket border after the center is completed.
Now I need to return to Nearly Insane.
I'm including a picture of these heifers in the pasture south of our house. They are enjoying the treat of corn husks left after husking sweet corn.

That is a pretty layout for all your 9 patches! How wonderful that you had so many already made and were able to use them in a new project!
Two EXCELLENT examples of 9-Patch quilts!!
pretty neat quilt - I always think nine patches made wonderful quilts.
I enjoy Fairies and Fibers, too - I plan to make her Orange Crush someday soon. I love your nine patch quilts - such a very versatile block! I'm looking forward to your basket borders!
Nine patch blocks are the best. Thanks for sharing two pretty examples with Oh Scrap this week!
I enjoy making 9-patches of all different sizes They an easy peasy block to make and they pile up quickly. It makes the actual project go together so much faster when a lot of preliminary work is already completed. I'm pleased the yellow patches show so much, a lot of them are a very soft yellow. I didn't think they would show at all but I used them because they were sewn.
Thanks but Karen was the designer. I love 9-patches!
This was a real treat for the eyes! Thanks for sharing these wonderful quilts.
That's a beautiful quilt. What a lot of nine patches - great patience. Well done.
I felt like I had seen the pattern for the basket quilt you are working on. Followed links and found I have it favorited on the Craftsy web site. I look forward to seeing yours complete.
It will be awhile before she's completed. I'm running the strips and pieces through the sewing machine as leaders and enders. I was pleasantly pleased to be able to complete as much as I did.
So beautiful!! Love all the colors in it!
That's a lovely way to use up those nine-patches! I've made some notes in my quilting inspiration journal. Thank you! Andrea
I'm so glad you shared these at BOMs Away - Your Cherry Blossoms is gorgeous - really love it in the larger sizing, which seems to let the design sign out even more.
Thank you so much for your link to Fairies & Fibres! I am loving reading all her helpful tips!!!
Also loving the way you are using your 9-patches. But, am I understanding correctly that they are paper pieced? I don't understand . . . EPP 9 patches?
Thank you Gretchen for your participation today at the Show and Tell Monday !! Bambi hug
Beautiful quilts. Love both of them!
The 9-patches are not EPP. Most of the quilts Karen makes are EPP, that's what she's famous for. These 2 quilts were made using her patterns for pieced quilts.
Always such a delightful and inspirational blog. I don't know how you accomplish sooooo much and work on the farm/house too. I guess I spend much of my time chasing and playing with grandchildren ....whom I adore.....so my day will come. Your quilts are always so intricate and well balanced even though many are scrap. Perhaps my scraps are too varied. And to think you hand quilt many of them too. Wow! Thanks for sharing your projects....and life. Carrolyn V
Karen is a great EPP quilter. I love your Cherry Blossoms and the 9 Patch and Baskets is going to be striking.
I really like the Scrappy. You have accomplished so much this year. Keep up the good work!
Very pretty!
I love it! This is one I'd consider making in a heartbeat! Well done!
Beautiful quilts! I too love a 9patch, thanks for sharing with 'sew stitch snap SHARE'
This is so funny...I see your heifers enjoying the corn and I do the same here for the birds! They go crazy and I'll have a flock in the yard for a few hours devouring what I have left for them.
This quilt top is gorgeous!
Both are wonderful quilts! I really, really like the bottom one though, so scrappy looking. Like you, I often have to make my quilts larger and many times, add a border!
Dear Gretchen love the photo of the heifers are they jersey's? I grew up on a dairy and sheep farm in NZ and dad had jersey cows such gentle gentle creatures. great to see your Cheery blossom quilt again such a beautiful quilt, my goodness you must have sat at the sewing machine for hrs to get that many patches and blocks sewn together this week. Hugs Glenda
They're Guernseys. They faun like Jerseys but larger. Still very gentle too.
Your quilts are beautiful! :-)
Your 9 patch variation quilt is delectable! Beautiful work!
