I know I showed you the wintersweet flimsy I made last week and said was finished but I wasn't satisfied. I just didn't think it looked completed so I took the time and finished the chain. It didn't take long to do, just a morning of sewing.
Doesn't this look better?
I added twelve partial 9 patch blocks, four 4 patches and 16 background fabric rectangles that measured 4.5" by 14.5". Wintersweet now measures 83" square. I'm not planning on adding an outside border.
In my last wintersweet post, I said the binding was going to be red. I've changed my mind, the binding is now going to be a variety of green fabrics.
The free pattern for Wintersweet is found here on Cake Stand Quilts website.

Yes, It does look better and it's making it even harder for me not to start one of my own!
ReplyDeleteI looove your finish on the Wintersweet finish ;). Have a lovely day!!!

Beautiful quilt and your extra blocks finish off the quilt so, so nicely! I might just have to make this quilt! Have a great day.
ReplyDeleteDear Gretchen,
ReplyDeleteit looks amazing and now the question is, will you add borders to the flimsy. Have a wonderful day.
Yes, it does look better. :)
ReplyDeleteDefinitely the right choice to continue the chains. It looks so much more finished!
ReplyDeleteIt does look very nice! A great improvement. Making each of our quilts unique is what makes them so special. It shows that you care about your craft. Your love went in to this one for sure. Lovely quilt!
ReplyDeleteyes it does look more complete
ReplyDeleteWintersweet ... is ... SWEET! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat else can we say. And for sure, complete with those chains closed in. Scrappy greens will finish it off nicely. Totally curious what backing you will choose. A real Christmas-y print? Or what about a scrappy green and red mix, to use up more of your leftovers?
The extended chain provides an nice ending to the design. I do like the pattern and I downloaded it when you posted the link a while back.
ReplyDeleteGreat decision, yes I think it does look better with the additions.
ReplyDeleteIt's funny, I just pulled the pattern off of my printer, and you are right, finishing the chain makes the quilt looked finished. Thanks for sharing the tip.
ReplyDeleteYour additions look great on your quilt. Beautiful work.
ReplyDeleteI made a top with a chain block and after about three months I went back and completed the effect, as you've done.It justkept bugging me every time I looked at it. It's lovely in these colours
ReplyDeleteOwo yes! looks much better!!
ReplyDeleteEither way it is a lovely quilt but I think it was a good idea to do the extra bit of sewing.
ReplyDeleteYes, completing the chain makes it better. You would always be unhappy with the quilt had you not taken the time.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty. When I make mine I am going to add a 1" border to stop all the movement and then a 3" white border (or whatever the background fabric will be! But yours is so striking and pretty! I am cutting up scraps and might just make a very scrappy one! Hugs
ReplyDeleteits funny how a quilt can still speak to you and say it needs more. I did like it the other way - but with the finished chains - it just adds that *spark*
ReplyDeleteOooh, I like the added blocks, it looks more serene and complete this way! A green binding is going to be a great option.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this pretty top, and linking up!
Here it is 30 Sept 2023 and I am relooking at this quilt. I prefer the way you finished yours! I have downloaded the pattern and it will be one that I will use for the graduates at Jones Academy! Thx for the hint on finishing it the prettiest way! Hugs
