I sewed cut off triangles onto 2.5" white squares at the Jane Stickel retreat in November then trimmed them to size after I returned home from the retreat.
I took the squares along to Phoenix and pieced 16 blocks.
Now I have 46 blocks, I need 34 more.
Here is a link to the first post about these blocks. This is going to be a very colorful quilt! There were a lot of blue triangles in this bunch but I sew a lot of blue quilts.
I have plenty more triangles to sew onto the squares. This has become my leader/ender project for now.
The last time I posted about this project, several people commented they sew triangles together, trim them to size and use them in another quilt. That is too much work for me. This quilt is as improv as I get.

I love this idea for waste triangles. I think I see one of these in my future!! I don't like making HSTs from them and trimming either.
ReplyDeleteYour quilt top looks great. I saved the cutoff triangles for years and finally made a quilt some time ago. It was enough for me; I decided I no longer needed to save pieces less than 2" on at least one side. I admire anyone with the patience to use every little scrap! ~Jeanne

I like these blocks, great use and mix of HTS from diferent sizes and colors, all the blue triangles join them all so well. I have a bag full of cut off triangles, will check if I have white fabric enough, so I can play with them as Leader and enders too. Great idea Gretchen!
ReplyDeleteThe colors are the perfect antidote to our grey winter skies. The blues are nicely balance with the warm yellows and oranges.
ReplyDeleteI don't like using flippy corners precisely because of the waste triangles. I have boxes of them to be used up and they're too much hassle for me. I'd rather find a way to sew without them.But your little blocks are very cute and I'm interested to see what you do with them.
