In December I posted about a Dancing Star block I had made as a test preview for the 2021 RSC. Julie was among the many comments about my block. She said, in her own words, "Beautiful block! Dancing Stars is a great pattern for the RSC. In fact, my first ever RSC quilt used that pattern: https://quiltsandcostumes.blogspot.com/2015/05/bloggers-quilt-festival-dancing-stars.html Have fun making yours!"
Of course I checked out her link and looked at her quilt. I like her blocks better than the one I made. The black background fabric really highlights the colors of the triangles in the block.
I liked her quilt so well, I have rethought my blocks and I'm using a black background too. I also like how she used a lighter color of the same darker fabric. I guess I'm going to be a copy cat and go with her idea, I like it better than the light gray I had used. Thanks for commenting Julie!
Another idea change I've had is to use all solids in my Dancing Stars blocks, I certainly have plenty in the solids tub!
Here are six Dancing Star blocks using pinks.

It is so fun when we find inspiration in the quilts of others. So glad you found ideas that you liked well enough to try.
ReplyDeleteOh, I enjoyed watching Julie's grow and will enjoy watching your pretty quilt grow as well! Great fabric choices.
ReplyDeleteThe pinks really pop with the black background,
ReplyDeleteLooks so nice. So grateful for all the quilters that share their discoveries and successes. What would we do without the exchange of ideas in the quilt world?
ReplyDeleteI like the black background really makes those colors pop
ReplyDeleteYour blocks look fantastic! I always love bright colors against a black background.
ReplyDeleteSEW much inspiration out there, Gretchen! Enjoy your RSC "copy cat" quilt making. :o))
ReplyDeleteThose blocks are beautiful, and I loved seeing Julie's quilt that that you were inspired by, too! The black background really does make a difference.
ReplyDeleteYour dancing stars are growing beautifully. Nice job. The black really sets those colors off.
ReplyDeleteGretchen, your stars look amazing.
ReplyDeleteI remember Julie's gorgeous quilt! I was inspired too but never got past the inspiration point. Gosh, your stars are going to make for a gorgeous quilt too!
ReplyDeleteI like the many shades of pink on the black background! It will be fabulous!
ReplyDeleteOh, you're going to be much happier with these, aren't you? So beautiful!
ReplyDeleteWOW The black will make all the rainbow colors pop. well done Gretchen!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful block and you're doing such a great job! I think the gray would've looked nice too if you'd used the two-tone pinks. Any idea of what size you'd like to end up with?
ReplyDeleteI doubt I'll have the interest to make a full sized quilt even though that would be so pretty. I'll settle for a throw around 60" by 80" but it will take awhile to have enough blocks to make it that size. Julie said she made a dozen blocks a month, I'm not going to make that many a month. But it this turns into a multi year quilt, I might have enough for a full size. I'll just wait and see what happens.
