My easy breezy quilt is a flimsy. I used simple sashing and cornerstones in between the blocks so now it's a courthouse steps quilt. It measures 92" by 105".
I like it but I think the chains running toward the right would show more if I had used darker fabrics instead of the lighter blues.
This was such a fun, fast and easy quilt to make. I didn't make at dent at all in the 2" strip box but I tried. Making at least one quilt from that box was a goal for this year.
Easy breezy is a free leader/ender pattern from Bonnie Hunter, except I just sewed all my blocks all at once. I'm not good with dragging out piecing blocks. Putting the blocks together into the courthouse steps setting was my idea. I have no idea of how Bonnie is going to set her blocks.
For now this quilt will hang in the to be quilted closet. It will definitely be long arm quilted, not hand quilted.

Gretchen... WOW! I love this flimsy girl! Turned out great. I love the mix of blues yellows and neutrals too!!! I am just enamoured with this great shot and how that blue border makes the center look like fun fireworks... yes an overall design would be fun... maybe hand quilt the outer border though :D Big stitch style!!! Just my 2 cents! lol Kathi
ReplyDeleteThose are good idea for hand quilting. We'll see how it goes, there just isn't enough time to hand quilt everything! I do have a quilting stencil that would be perfect for the outside border then I see Baptist fans on the inside of the quilt. Of course quilted in the variegated white/blue thread.
DeleteThis is so amazing! Congrats on another flimsy finish!
ReplyDeleteHi Gretchen! It seems like you just started this quilt and here it is a quilt top already. I wonder how many quilt strips it took to make it. It had to make a minor dent! It sure is beautiful - you did a really nice job. Thanks for linking up this week. I wonder what's on the docket next?! ~smile~ Roseanne
ReplyDeleteYou'll find out what the next project is on Friday!
DeleteWhat a lovely quilt! Your colors are fantastic!!! Have a safe and happy week!
ReplyDeleteThis is a gorgeous quilt! I love how you used the cornerstones with the sashing. ~Jeanne
ReplyDeleteI don't think we ever really make a dent in our stashes do we - this was a nice use of scraps it looks great.
ReplyDeleteLove it! I get what your saying about the lighter blues but I like the variation and think it adds to the quilt. Perhaps the dent you made was bigger than it seems--every little bit helps. I'm really working on scrap- and stash-busting this month so might try this one (thanks for the link) but I'm with you, I'm not much of a leader/ender person.
ReplyDeleteI think your diagonal blues are perfect. I'm not a fan of diagonals that look like they run off the page and these don't, and coupled with the yellow line that pull your eye back in is a hit. It's beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThis is gorgeous, Gretchen! I love how the yellow brings in just a hint of sunshine without overpowering. Congratulations on a beautiful finished flimsy!
ReplyDeleteThat is just beautiful, Gretchen! I've made a few of those Easy Breezy blocks, but haven't been sure what I would do with them. I love your added sashing and cornerstones. Scrappy blues and yellows are a wonderful combination!
ReplyDeleteI love the blue border. It frames it nicely. Congratulations on your finish.
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome top! I hear you on the leader/ender issue. I just tire of the long term, I want quick results!
ReplyDeleteLove blues and yellows together. Your quilt top is lovely and pleasing to the eye.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!!!!
ReplyDeleteOh, how lovely it turned out to be!! Will look wonderful once quilted up and all squishy after washing.
ReplyDeleteIt is so pretty! Ah! Those blues....so relaxing! Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteYours is beautiful, and because yellow can so easily take over, I think the light blue was the perfect foil for the lines going in that direction. I would make mine just like that.
ReplyDeletethis is a beautiful quilt.......love the colours you have chosen........
ReplyDeleteReally love the fabrics and colors in this! Although you lost a little bit of the diagonals I can still see them and they really add to the design! Thanks for sharing this on Wednesday Wait Loss.
