Slow Stitching Sunday

I have to say I'm getting used to the new blogger format. My biggest complaint though is the difference between the 'normal' font and the 'large' size! It seems like there should be another size in between the two. Many blogs are using the normal size, it is really hard to read. Guess they don't have a problem with eye strain.

Here is my progress this week on the vintage Boston commons quilt.

This quilt has some challenges so my marking isn't exactly perfect. I had planned to have cross hatching as the background of the feathers but that didn't work out.

The mitre seam doesn't look right but it needed to be quilted because of puckers.

The Baptist fan quilting is happening on point. I like it this way.

This quilt is never going going to be a show quilt, I'm just quilting this for fun and because I liked the quilt. I didn't piece the quilt, it was  purchased for $20 off the resale table at the Jane Stickle retreat last November.

  2. Your added touch to this "rescue quilt" is amazing! Love all the details you are including. The on-point Baptist fans are great. The puckers are being corrected nicely. I am slowly getting used to the new Blogger as well. I don't know if I should YELL at people with my font or whisper yet.

    1. I'm not yelling at people with the larger font, I just want them to be able to read it easier. If I start reading a blog and they've used the smaller font, I often just stop and click off. My hearing isn't so great and have trouble hearing 'whispers' too! That's why I don't normally watch videos on blogs. Happy stitching!

  3. The Baptist Fan is one of my favorite. It goes well with the scrappy bargain quilt top. I was unaware of the difference in font sizes on the updated blogger platform. You are correct, the normal does seem to small.

  4. I always love visiting to see what you are stitching. I love the quilting designs you pick out as they always fit the quilt so well. I never checked the font size on the new blogger.... I'll go take a look as your blog was much easier to read. Thanks.

  5. Gretchen, I like this quilt too.....$20 seems a real bargain! Do you use a template for the Baptist fan? What do you use to mark?

  8. you have made great progress on the quilt - I have noticed when reading the blogs on blogger that the font size was so much larger than normal and yes there is certainly no eye strain! It does make it easy to read for sure.

  9. So fun to be quilting someone else's piecing! Love love the fans!
You are doing fantastic with the new blogger! I was too frustrated and just decided that when they cut me off from the old system, I'll either figure out the new system or I won't!

  10. I think you are doing a great job on the quilting. I remember the first pictures you had of the top...with the puckers. It is looking amazing. I just love how quilts look as you are hand quilting them!!
I also love the large font, no squinting needed!!

  13. I hadn't noticed the font size difference on my posts - guess I should go back and check that! I also prefer reading a larger font these days. I enjoy seeing how your quilting on this one is progressing, Gretchen!

  14. This is going to be a beauty with all of its flaws that showed before you started quilting it! Pretty!

  15. You got this top for $20?! That's amazing -- and so is your quilting! I didn't notice anything wrong with the miter seam until you pointed it out, because I was busy admiring your tiny, even quilting stitches. Honestly, I think the issue with that seam will be totally resolved by the time you've finished quilting it and wash it for the first time.

About the font size -- I thought it was just my big, giant desktop monitor making the fonts tiny and difficult for me to read, and that "normal" font looked normal size on most other people's normal sized screens. Is my blog one that you can't read easily, Gretchen? I wonder if I should consider using a larger font as well?

  16. Hmmm, I didn't notice the difference in the font size. I am sorry that you are having trouble reading the normal font size. I do like how you are quilting that pretty quilt.

  17. Baptist fan is my most favourite quilt design. Do you mark your top before you baste Gretchen. If so what do you use?
