Floral Triangles Quilting Progress

This week I made it completely across the row I was quilting. That's because the pieced blocks quilt faster than the applique blocks. I forgot to take a picture of the whole row and I've already rolled the quilt, ready to start quilting again.

From the left, side border.

And the rest of the blocks.

You may have noticed that some of the curliques on the bottom of the stems are kind of pleated.Originally I was using bias I had made but I didn't like the way that looked, so I switched to back basting. The more smooth curliques are back basted.

  1. I had not noticed the difference. I used both techniques in my Cherries quilt. I love seeing the hand quilting effect.

  2. I had not noticed the pleated areas until you pointed them out... next project you back baste can you share a bit about how you do that... I can make bias but I like your back basted finished stems BETTER! :) Lovely quilting and photos of your quilting <3 Have a wonderful week! Kathi

    1. I've started using wool batts exclusively for hand quilting, stitches so much easier.

    2. Yes, I have found that to be so much easier than others, as well. And in case of fire... did you know... that wool resists burning?

  5. Backbasting is a lifesaver when we need to do those fine curves. I remember the frustration I had on some vase handles till I tried to backbaste them. Your quilt is just going to be a masterpiece so many wonderful stitches and colors.
