I've been admiring the Circle of Squares block on several blogs ever since I saw it the first time. I don't know who's blog that was but Kathy has been making this block for her one of her RSC projects. I would like to make these blocks but I'm already making two separate projects for the RSC, I don't want to add another one to the mix.
However, something came over me when I was prepping the Star Dance blocks. I decided to prep one or two blocks for Circle of Squares! The pattern is found on Toefeather's blog.
Here they are, 8 (yes 8) Circle of Square blocks.
I don't know if I'll make Circle of Square blocks every month. I did think of a way to use 8 blocks in a crib quilt. Time will tell.
For your information - I learn so many thing from reading other blogs. We shouldn't call ourselves sewers (which can be confused with pipes in the ground that have human waste running through them) anymore. We should call ourselves sewists! I'm sorry I don't remember who's blog I read that on but it sounds so much nicer.

This looks so effective - would be interesting to try a scrappy version.
ReplyDeleteI like the look of that block--great job!
ReplyDeleteThat's a lovely twist on a simple square--I'll have to go over to the other blog and check out the directions. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI like those, what a fun block!
ReplyDeleteSeeing what others are creating when you visit their blogs can stir your own creativity. A good thing but can get us in overload so easily. Just look in my sewing room at all the UFO's and you can see what I mean.
ReplyDeleteI don't need to look in your sewing room, mine is bad enough! It is hard not to start a new project every week with all the ideas on line.
DeleteThese look awesome!
ReplyDeleteI believe that Bloggers help inspire all quilters and yes, sewists! Neat saying. This is a quick and easy block and would be fun and cute to make using the RSC Colors! Hummmmm Another little inspiration and project. Thx for the link!
ReplyDeleteThat's a lovely block, I shall check out your link for the tutorial.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty! I love how cheerful they look in yellow!
ReplyDeleteI recently put together a quilt top of circle of squares blocks. I like your yellow version.
ReplyDeleteI love your circle of squares blocks! But I dislike the term "sewists." I get the whole thing about sewer, but there are plenty of other words in the English language that are spelled the same but have different pronunciations, different meanings depending on the context in the sentence. I prefer the "-er" ending because that's how we refer to other artists: painter, sculptor, dancer, actor, writer, weaver, designer, tailor... The "-ist" ending seems to me to connote a person doing a menial job versus someone expressing creativity. Like "typist." Even so "ARTIST" ends in 'ist! Ah, well. We can all call ourselves whatever we want. Mainly I say I'm a quilter, or a fiber artist. :-)
ReplyDeleteThis is such a clever block, well done!
ReplyDeleteSewists, that does sound nicer. When in doubt, quilters works nicely too. Lovely yellow blocks. 8 in a crib quit is nice, or a two color quilt is always fun too. It is fun when patterns call to us and blocks magically get made.
ReplyDeleteWell, no wonder you finally made a few -- it is a wonderful block, and will make a fun, fresh quilt. Carry on!
ReplyDeleteI love and am intrigued by your circle of squares blocks. Like you, I've seen them around and may have to try one sometime. I once did a post - last year sometime - that included the sewer/sewist musings. It Included a picture of the Tomb of the Unknown Sewer (a manhole cover).
ReplyDeleteGreat circle of square blocks.
ReplyDeleteYour circles are great!
ReplyDeleteThat circle of squares block is on my to do radar too.
ReplyDeleteIve always hated calling myself a sewer...love the idea of changing it to sewist! Your yellow circle of squares blocks are sweet. They would be perfect in a baby quilt.
ReplyDeleteYour circles are great!we love visiting in your blog...we will come back soon.
