Churn Dash Quilt

Since the blocks were already pieced, it didn't take long to sew the center of the churn dash quilt together.
You can see part of her hanging on the quilt frame. I couldn't display her on the clothesline since we have soft, mush snow on the ground.

She measures 72-1/2" by 82". Now I need to get the blocks cut for the first square in a square border.

In my quilt the blocks are smaller than in the original. I couldn't make the math work for the size I wanted using 10-1/2" blocks. My blocks are 7-1/2".

I realize not everyone likes two color quilts, but that's ok. I love them!

    1. I love them too. I'll see when this quilt is finished, but it looks like there might be enough fabric left on the bolt for a 3rd blue & white quilt.

  2. Gretchen The simplicity of atwo colour quilt is all part of the charm. I love churndash blocks, the smaller they are the more depth they add to a quilt. It is definitely hand quilting season for me. Through out this year I basted a number of quilts to Quilt. I will be lap quilting them, as my grace frame is still packed from our move two years ago. it will be assembled once l have painted the walls where it will be. Another proje t on my list. Painting is reserved for winter. Thank you for sharing, your quilting with us, it inspires me to get so much more done.

    1. I am planning on hand quilting this quilt. I have a Grace quilting frame but have only used it one time. That was a mid-sized wallhanging. Hope you get your painting finished since I've inspired you. Thanks for stopping bye.

  3. I am going to start over as it appears my brain is just not engaged. It is amazing to me that by setting a block on point or as you have how different a quilt can look. I love your Blue and White - just like I loved your DJ quilt. The quilt world has gone overboard on the scrappy look (my thoughts). The 2 or 3 color quilts are so pleasing and calming to the eye. Excellent job Gretchen. We do not have snow, but it is so nice to have winter! Hopefully it will stay this way (40's at night 60's daytime) for the rest of the season.

    1. Actually the blocks are set on point. The white triangles in the corners blend into the white squares. I've received a lot of compliments on my Jane. The compliment is hear most often is you can actually see the blocks. I like scrappy quilts but I want to see the block design. Too often what I see is a smear of colors.

  4. Oh Gretchen I love love your blue and white quilt it looks so fresh and charming. Im sure the smaller size block is giving it more depth too. A old old pattern but it never looses its charm does it. Enjoy your hand quilting this winter. Hugs Glenda

    1. I've got to get the quilt top sewn together first before I can quilt her. I'm working on the first square in a square border today. We're supposed to get 1" - 3"of lake effect snow. Winter is here!

  6. I really want to test out this quilt...on a long nap on a snowy afternoon. I guess I had better make my own. Yours is very inspiring. Your quilt is proof that quilting will never die!

  7. Your blue and white churn dashes are beautiful! I like making quilts with a few more colors and fabrics but when I see finished quilts my eyes are always drawn to two-color quilts. One of these days I will make one!
