July was fill to the brim with family coming and going and other activities. August was the same way, I just couldn't get caught up with anything then September was the same! In between all the happenings, I did have a few days to myself. I managed to make black raspberry jelly and it's delicious, especially when spread on homemade bread!
There were almost 16 half-pints canned. Someone asked me "who cans black raspberry jelly"? All I can say is this jelly is so much better than jelly purchased at Aldi or any regular supermarket. A good comparison is the difference between piecing and quilting a beautiful quilt or buying a blanket at WalMart. Some people can't see the difference but we quilters certainly can and my farmer could definitely taste the difference. I picked these raspberries from the plants that grow in the trees that surround our home.
He flew over the corn then flew straight up to avoid the wires and the tall trees. Then he flew directly over the house but I wasn't fast enough to snap that picture. He made several sweep over the fields.
Lastly, but perhaps the most important item to share, I finished a quilt! I participated in the Evermore quilt BOM at Calico Point this year and my quilt is finished and measures 101" square.
Technically the BOM didn't end until November but I'm not a patient person and I was ready to be done. The October pattern showed us how to sew the pieced corner sections. The November pattern is for the outside border but I decided to figure it out on my own so I went ahead, finished the flimsy then delivered it to Dana Stalter for quilting.
This above picture was taken on the display floor.
And now on the bed.
The blocks were 12" finished each except for October and November, those instructions were for finishing the quilt.
The quilting is Abundant Feathers designed by Three Sisters Fabric. Dana's turn-around is so fast, I wonder if she sleeps at night?
And a closeup of the stitching, feathers are such an elegant design!
Be warned, this design does use a LOT of thread! And the quilt top did shrink with all the quilting.
I had purchased a beautiful blue backing but it didn't leave enough room along the sides while quilting. I'll use that backing on another blue quilt.

A gorgeous quilt finish, Gretchen. I love the quilting pattern as well.
ReplyDeleteHome canned black raspberry jam is the best! We use the wild berries on the property, wild berries have more flavor and seeds. As for what the plane could be spraying, around here they will spray glyphosate on crops to dry them out faster for harvest. Same thing happened around my dads house a couple weeks ago. He was working in the yard when the plane flew over and started spraying the field next to his property. He said he went in the house and stayed there until the next day. No yard work is worth getting sprayed with chemicals.
ReplyDeleteI could see the plane wasn't spraying but yes, you don't want to get sprayed with herbicide or anything else.
DeleteThat quilt is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYou are so right. Home canned fruits and vegetables are so much better than those in the stores and you know the ingredients that are used. We didn't can this season because our garden did poorly . Thankfully our pantry is well stocked from last year. How interesting about the low flying plane. Hubby saw a very low flying plane over our property a couple of weeks ago- so low that it was way below the mountain line which was not too far away. Hmmm. The quilt is gorgeous , Gretchen . A beautiful gift for one of your grandchildren.
