The blue pineapples are now a flimsy. This quilt is more of a scrappy quilt than I had originally planned, the corners don't look the way they should. The flimsy measures 98.5", I wonder how much it will shrink during the quilting?
A picture of the back, there are a LOT of seams! A lightweight batting is going into this quilt.
There are 57 pieces in each block, times 64 blocks is 3648 pieces.
These blocks were foundation paper pieced. I purchased the papers from Gigi's Thimble. Her quilt looks different from mine. She made sure each block was shaded the same and she put the light blocks in the corners. I won't say I will never make another pineapple quilt, but if I do, I'll switch the corners.
The flimsy has been delivered to the long arm quilter at Calico Point, they said it would be 6 weeks - two months.
1.5" strips were used to make this quilt, I have a LOT of strips left! I foresee a blue/neutral log cabin happening sometime in the future, but not right away.

DeleteI prefer your dark corners as you have not put a border round it. I think that light corners lead the eye away. Gigi's has a dark border which contains it. Yours is absolutely gorgeous, I love it! And I can imagine it is quite heavy with all those seams. Congratulations, I don't think I would have had the patience to make all those blocks, let alone remove the papers!
ReplyDeleteThank you, the paper removal was time consuming, binge watch helped!
DeleteWowee this is spectacular! I love the scrappiness, and I don't know how the corners "should be", but yours look perfect. When you get it back, will you hang it?
ReplyDeleteI haven't thought that far ahead yet, it probably depends on my husband. If he likes it better than the other blue & neutral quilts we have hanging, we'll hang it. Thanks for commenting!
DeleteThat's an amazing quilt top, all those tiny little strips!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely were a lot of pieces! I had originally planned to make 49 blocks but then decided I wanted a larger quilt.
DeleteYour blue pineapple quilt looks absolutely stunning, even if it turned out scrappier than you initially planned! The sheer number of pieces is impressive, and it must feel rewarding to have completed the flimsy. It’s interesting to see how different shading techniques can create unique designs; yours will definitely have its own charm! I’m excited for you to see how it turns out after quilting. The lightweight batting sounds perfect, especially for a quilt of this size.
ReplyDeleteWith so many leftover strips, a blue/neutral log cabin quilt sounds like a great future project! It’s always nice to have something to look forward to. Enjoy the wait for the quilting process, and I can’t wait to see the finished quilt!
I just posted a new post, I invite you to read [here](https://www.melodyjacob.com/2024/10/mushroom-coffee-health-benefits-ingredients-guide.html).
Thank you! There are different ways to go about shading a pineapple quilt but I'm very glad to be finished piecing this one.
DeleteWOW!!! just truly WOW!! that is gorgeous!!How will you quilt it?
ReplyDeleteCalico Point will be doing the long arm quilting. I selected a quilting design but don't remember the name of it. The quilting will be an overall design, definitely not custom quilted. The backing fabric is a white fabric which will display the quilting very nicely. Thanks for commenting!
DeleteYours is beautiful, Gretchen! Your quilt looks more blue than Gigi's, which would be my preference, too. What type of batting will they be using?
ReplyDeleteThe batting will be a thin polyester. I don't have a problem using polyester in quilts, costs a lot less.
DeleteI like the variety of blues and blue placement in the block. Gives the quilt a soft scrapy feel.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteI love your version, you've added a beautiful variety of blues, it's very rich. It's like looking a pond during a light rain, with the falling drops. Lovely top, it's going to be another jewel when it will return from the quilter. Thank you for sharing your beautiful work!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your kind comments!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely STUNNING! I purchased the papers and that was as far as I got. I like your version. Light batting is a wise choice!!!
ReplyDeleteWow, that is absolutely gorgeous! I love the variations in the blocks and your layout. I wouldn't change a thing!
ReplyDeleteyou are amazing! All those beautiful, beautiful blues! susies-sxraps.com
