Snowdrops

The last blocks in section 8 of Stonefields are appliqued and are called Snowdrops. Actually it is titled Snowdrop because there was just supposed to be one block of this design but I appliqued two blocks because I like the design.

And the second block.

I made two snowdrops because the last block designed, called Sunflower, for this section is EPP'd. I don't mind EPP but since the blocks finish at 6", the pieces are really tiny! I did print the pattern off onto card stock paper the weight of regular EPP paper. I might be brave someday and attempt the EPP work but then I may not.

I've run out of room on the display wall! I'm up to 97 blocks with 24 more blocks to be completed. I'll probably remove all these blocks then put newly completed blocks on the wall.

  2. This might be my favorite block thus far! I love snowdrops. I got some of my grandmother's snowdrops and moved them to my first house that I bought. When I married my husband and moved here I brought some with me. I keep dividing them and spreading them over the last 22 years that I've lived here. It's the first thing to bloom. It won't be long until the snowdrops bloom!!! Then spring will be here when it gets here.

  3. Oh those are pretty! And I love the name snowdrops.
Your blocks look stunning on your board! I have a quilt planned that will take up every inch on my board, and I'm getting to the point I get nervous on a stepladder, and getting on the floor is no fun. ;)

  14. WOW! I think Nanette is peering down at your design wall from Heaven and nodding with approval. Your Stonefields is going to be magnificent. As for the last block with tiny EPP -- I think the little kit that came with my pattern includes the EPP templates for that block as I recall seeing some pretty tiny papers in there. Right now I have chaos in my studio as I started making hexies (pulling out fabric and supplies and piling them all over the worktable) before I finished unpacking and organizing and finding homes for various items that were also on the worktable, now buried beneath the mountain of scraps and fat quarters that all have hexies cut out of them... I'm so glad you are working on this quilt with me, Gretchen. Seeing your beautiful work inspires me and motivates me to keep going, albeit at my much slower pace!

  15. Very nice block and good choice to make two! The end is in sight now, heh?! Unless you make all of those border blocks!!! Which maybe you should!

    1. I'll decide about the border when the center is sewn into a flimsy and the flying geese border attached.
