Block 22 from the Elegant Garden quilt is completed, I'm getting close to being finished with the applique blocks!
I'm not satisfied with this block though, the teal color overwhelms all the other colors and the lavender looks rather blah. This was the size of the flower but I think it should have been larger. I decided to add some embroidery to see if I can add more color.
Here is a closeup of the flower, it didn't help much. It will just make the other blocks look more attractive.

I like the purple, but get what you are saying that the block doesn't pop. Sometimes you need some subtle to let the quilt have places to rest the eye.
ReplyDeleteI do see what you see; but also agree with Kate about having some subtle areas in a quilt. . .That is what this blocks will be! You do beautiful work!

I won't change it, it's not my favorite but I can live with it. Unless something is really bad, I'm too lazy to change it. The other ladies are correct in saying it will give a place for the eye to rest.

ReplyDeleteYour hand applique always impresses me. I love then leaves and stems – so soft and graceful. The French Knots on the flower sure bring in the rest of the fabric.
ReplyDeleteI liked the block colors (especially that touch of lavender amoung all the teal) but also like what just that little touch of yellow embroidery adds to it. When we are nose deep in one block it may seem unbalanced but when you put it in the sea of other blocks, I don't think it will be as jarring to you. Heck it may wind up adding a special spark to the whole layout!
