Pastor's Attic Quilt, Still Appliqueing!

The second border for the Pastor's Attic quilt is finished and I've attached the two borders to the center body. I'm very pleased with the way the border looks.

I've started working on the next two borders.

I haven't been hand quilting my quilt since my last post about Spring Fever. The hand quilters from my guild have been working hard at finishing up the quilt for this year's Michiana (Michigan/Indiana) Mennonite Relief Sale. The sale isn't until September but we want this quilt finished so we can work on our own projects.

The quilt stitched hard and my fingers got so sore. By the time they didn't hurt anymore, it was time to go quilt again.

Saturdays were all day quilting. Yesterday we finished the quilt! Happy Dance!! I finally remembered to take my camera along so I could take pictures.

The quilt is queen sized and has 800 yards of quilting thread. Rhoda and Kathy, who pieced this quilt, put 2 patterns together and came up with this design. I don't remember the name.

It needs binding and other tweaking but my contribution is finished. Now I can quilt again on Spring Fever.

Beautiful. Was it quilted with fans?

Group projects are always fun, but it's also good to see the end of them. I always heave a huge sigh of relief that I can get back to my own projects.

The wider pieces and the squares finished at 1-1/2". Those were stitched in the ditch. The 6" squares were marked a little less than 1/2" cross hatching. It took so long to quilt those blocks. I finally got so I could quilt a plain square in 2 hours. The one with the baskets took longer because you couldn't keep going, we needed to stitch around the basket. It didn't help that there was beadwork on the baskets that kept catching the thread either.

We finished the quilt before noon so my fingers didn't have a change to get so sore. I anticipate quilting on my own quilt this week and showing my progress next Sunday.

Sore fingers - the worst thing about hand quilting. Even with the use of a thimble, the other fingers involved get quite tender. Beautiful work!

I love that quilt. It was worth all the sore fingers. I don't quilt enough to keep my fingers from getting sore, but it is worth it in the end. Your Pastor's Attic is looking beautiful.

What a pretty quilt your group made for the donation quilt. I have never been to one of the relief sales/auctions but have talked to someone who has. Do you attend?

Pastor's Attic is really a beautiful quilt. I like your borders rather than the ones in the pattern. I am sure this will be one that you will want to keep and admire for years!

What a beautiful sale quilt. Do you sale chances on it?
Love your applique quilts.

The guild quilt will be auctioned off in the Michiana Mennonite Relief Sale quilt auction.

I didn't like the pattern borders and I really dislike the corner design they have, not happening on my quilt. I'm definitely keeping this quilt. It will eventually end up with one of my grandchildren as an inheritance. I hope they don't use it for a picnic quilt.

Your applique is so near to being a finished top! And wow - I bet the beads on the baskets are very nice now that you're all finished with the quilting, but I sure can imagine the catches in the thread that kept happening!
