Scrappy Star, A Charity Quilt

While I was working on the scrappy star charity quilt several weeks ago, I sewed the 16 blocks for the center of another star. I decided I was tired of sewing stars, so I put it away for a couple weeks.
After I finished sewing my RSC blocks, I pulled the fabrics needed to finish this top. She is quilted, measures 43" square and is ready for donation. She will be going to a local charity in my area.

Sarah, from Confessions of a Fabric Addict, is organizing Hands2Help, a Charity Quilt Challenge. She has organized this charity drive for several years. If you are interested, check out her post.

If you aren't interested in Sarah's challenge but have quilt tops to give away, you might want to send them to Jo Kramer. You send her the tops and she'll quilt them for charity. Click here for the details.

With the finish of this little quilt, mom's purple box is empty. What few pieces were left have been cut into 5" squares. I did add some of my fabrics to the mix.

Thanks. It is brighter in real life than the photo shows.

How nice that someone will quilt the tops for charity. We do local through the guild. This year we have sent out over 45 quilts.

A beautiful finish! Congrats on using up all the purple scraps, that's an achievement all it's own.

I like to donate my charity quilts local also. There are so many organizations needing quilts.

Yes, I feel good about that purple box being emptied. Now, it's onto the browns box. She really like brown. I have 2 banana boxes full of those fabrics. I don't know if brown will be ok for children's quilts or not.

Thank you. It was a very easy top to piece and it works up into a nice size for a crib quilt.

I love this scrappy star. Did you use charms for the center blocks?

I cut unused fabrics into 5" squares and strips. These were all squares from my stash.

It always feels so good to in our stash and use some of it up doesn't it! And then to get a beautiful donation quilt-warm fuzzies!

Very pretty, I'm sure whomever receives it will love it.

I think I was just as excited to use the fabric from my stash as I was for the quilt finish! It will keep a small child nice and cozy.

Thank you, I hope too it will be well loved.

That is a sweet little charity quilt. Some little one will love the comfort and warmth it brings. Our tiny quilt ministry group makes baby quilts for a regional pregnancy center and we've just begun making lap quilts for a local nursing home in addition to those comfort quilts made for members and family/friends within our church family. There are so many needs right here in our area that we don't have the time/resources to reach beyond. It is wonderful that some of the larger guilds have the capacity to do that.
